Venturerider.org in a parade?

I think a bunch of us should all get together on the fourth of July and do some advertising for the group and the website, and ride in the parade in Chetek, WI. I'm gonna check and see if there is going to be a bike show again this year too. I got best in show last year.

We will be in Rhinelander over the 4th.I will have to see if I can sneek away for a little while.

I was in a Parade with a bike once and IT SUCKED!! Slow, slow moving...Overheating, me and the bike even with water cooled. I thought I would surely burn the bike up. Also my clutch hand hurt for a week from all the clutch feathering at those ultra slow speeds. Literally I spent most of the 4 mile parade route walking the bike along.

 

I'm all for advertising our group, but I will never be in a parade again:2133:

I was in a parade last summer. Can't remember where...I think it was Gatlinburg but not sure. Anyway, it was a day before the 4h of July. I didn't realize that they claimed to have the first 4th of July parade in the nation. I was just trying to get to my hotel and somehow got stuck right in the middle of the parade between two floats. It was raining like CRAZY and people just waving at us like we belonged there.

 

The bad part was that when I finally got all the way through town and to the hotel, I found out that I was at the wrong one. The Comfort Inn where I had reservations was the other direction, I had passed it almost 90 minutes earlier.

Ya, some of those thoughts had gone through my wee little brain. I thought about throwing the recliner on the trailer behind me and the kid could toss candy at people.

I did a parade with the PGR one St Pats day. Cured me of that nonsense! No fun in that at all. Crowd loved it but I thought I almost cooked my bike.

I've done the Americade parade a couple of times . They plan it so the bikes move at a relatively smooth pace without any stops or clutching. They travel two by two up to one end of town then turn and head the other way so the paraders get to watch the other members as they go by. The crowd gets to see it all.

 

If you've never done it its worth doing once. They have a local radio station play marching band music and everyone with a radio on their bike tunes in the station so that theres marching band music throughout the parade. Very well thought out. Anyway thats really the only way you'd want to do a parade.

 

Of course we did once have a custom bike shop enter one of our local parades once. The guy had his girl friend ride her custom chopper through the village in nothing but a thong bikini. The dad's LOVED it ,the mon's weren't anywhere near as appreciative.LOL! To be truthful though, the young lady was very attractive but unfortunately it only reinforce the negative biker image that many of us have been trying to quiet for years.

I did a few St. Patrick's Day parades with the old Venture Touring Society in Syracuse years ago. Even in March in upstate New York, a slow parade (what other kind is there?) is hard on the driver and the bike. I think if I ever get involved with one again, it will be with a semi hauling a flatbed with bikes on the back. Then we can toss candy or whatever, but no more riding in those torture sessions for me!!!
