and the dealer says its 3 weeks before he can look at it. Then if he thinks its covered under warranty he'll order one, and I'll have to make another 140 mile round trip to get it installed. When pressed about the time, he said that they are really busy with the holiday and all. (Is tomorrow a holiday that I've missed?) This throws a damper in the plans to take the bike on our vacation next week. And thats the dealer I bought it from! Don't ya just love 'em?

I would tell him have one on hand before I took the bike in to him. So you don't have to make the trip twice. Your shock is bad, so have them change it.

Is it common for the rear shock to fail? Or is it just an occasional thing? If its a common thing then you're right. He should get a shock on hand so I'm not making 2 trips, but whats the odds of him doing this?

Quite common for the oil seals to fail, not so common for the air. You might try changing the valve in the filler stem, its cheap and easy to do yourself, might solve your problem.

have you tried tightening the Schrader valve to see if it's just loose? Or maybe it's just got some dirt or fuzz in it. Take it out, clean it, reinstall and see if that takes care of the problem.
