Venturous Randy Posted June 17, 2008 #1 Posted June 17, 2008 Almost. This is what I came out to at lunch today. I was parked at an angle to the curb about 6 to 8 feet behind a Black Ford F-150 pickup when I went in this morning. When I came out to ride to lunch, the truck was gone and my bike was laying in the street. There was a guy on a Burgman scooter stopped as he thought there had been a crash. I saw the guy that lives in the house on the porch and motioned for him to come down to the street. I asked him if he knew anything about what happened. He said his girlfriend had left in the truck, but she did not hit my bike. I said is was obvious someone hit it and I suspected it was the person driving the truck. He is a bit redneck with about a dozen piercings and he started this I am gonna whoop your a$$ stuff. I said thats' all folks, I am calling the police. Well, it just so happens the guy on the scooter had some real close Police buddies and he called both of them. In a few minutes, both of them were there. Our Company Security people came by, but they informed that with it being on city streets, they were not involved. So, the scooter guy and I start talking to the LEO and he says it looks like a hit and run. The LEO talks to the guy at the house and that guy gives him the girl friend's phone number and she tells him that she did not hit my bike. So the LEO says with what he is told, there is not much more he can do until he can investigate more. The LEO gave me the card to get the police report and if I find out anything else, to let him know. Well, as the afternoon wore on, one of the engineers I work with said we might have it on company video. I give Security a call and ask and the guy says,"Ya mean the one that happened at 11:29 that shows a black pickup truck knocking a bike over and driving off"? "I said that must be the one". He then said he would burn a copy and give it to Human Resources as he was not allowed to give it straight to me. I did stop by the security office and they showed it to me. I then stopped by the police station and asked about getting in touch with the LEO that did the report as I had more information. The LEO gave me a call and I advised him it was on video and I would have a copy tomorrow. The LEO called me a little while ago and advised he was at redneck's house trying to get some information. The right fairing took a hard hit and both bags, one from the bumper and one from the curb. It also knocked the light bar to one side and the headlight cover is almost a half inch off center. It bent the engine guard into the water pump elbow, but did not hurt it. So, we will see what kind of insurance they have and go from there. Even though this is all fixable stuff for me, including the ghostflame paint job, I know this is going to be a big hassle. Please wish me luck. The LEO that did the report rides a Goldwing. RandyA
Condor Posted June 17, 2008 #2 Posted June 17, 2008 It's totalled, but hold out for the repair... Then fix it yourself. If the guy has insurance they'll end up writing you a check. Hold out for big bucks!!! Those broken parts cost a ton new, plus the custom paint... OooWhee !!!!
1BigDog Posted June 17, 2008 #3 Posted June 17, 2008 Sure hope it works out for you. I just wonder if the redneck boyfriend can be charged with impeding an investigation when he lied to the LEO as well as hit and run and impeding against the g/f.
mini-muffin Posted June 17, 2008 #4 Posted June 17, 2008 Hope it works out and I sent you a PM. Should be interesting since they lied about hitting it. Margaret
Redneck Posted June 17, 2008 #5 Posted June 17, 2008 (edited) Bummer! I would hang um high. Look at the bright side you can paint blue and white over that dark pink and make it look much better.:rotf: Make them give you a rental while they fix yours. Edited June 18, 2008 by Redneck
Guest Swifty Posted June 17, 2008 #6 Posted June 17, 2008 unbelievable story...bet you'd like to get porch guy and girlfriend in a room with LEO and play his words when he's watching the security tape.
pegscraper Posted June 17, 2008 #7 Posted June 17, 2008 Wow, fantastic that you have that on video! Nail the lying bugger!
Bummer Posted June 18, 2008 #8 Posted June 18, 2008 My '85 got knocked over by a hit and run scumbag years ago. I couldn't find any damage. Apparantly it landed just right on a grassy uphill. I got lucky. None the less it still um irritates me to this day. Cut them no slack at all! Remember it's a rare and valuable customized antique. When they try to cut you some short check tell 'em you want another zero just left of the decimal point. Hey, it's worth a try. Good luck.
bongobobny Posted June 18, 2008 #9 Posted June 18, 2008 Yah! I'm seeing several thousand dollars worth of damage, not to mention hit and run which I believe is a felony if not a major misdeminor. Hope you don't find out the scumbag doesn't have insurance, or the girl doesn't have a licence or something...
Marcarl Posted June 18, 2008 #10 Posted June 18, 2008 Yah! I'm seeing several thousand dollars worth of damage, not to mention hit and run which I believe is a felony if not a major misdeminor. Hope you don't find out the scumbag doesn't have insurance, or the girl doesn't have a licence or something... If they don't have insurance, at least they have a truck. You could maybe take it as payback, or maybe that would be another liability.
dray Posted June 18, 2008 #11 Posted June 18, 2008 id try to keep that parking spot sounds like a good one to have! Good luck in getting your money out of them dont give up easy Dray
Bubber Posted June 18, 2008 #12 Posted June 18, 2008 Tell the Insurance Company you just had a buyer who was going to give you $6500.00 for the bike then give them my name and I will swear to it! BTW go rip the peicing out of mister redneck's nose and shove it down his throut. After you get the check. Bubber:whistling:
Yammer Dan Posted June 18, 2008 #13 Posted June 18, 2008 Good Luck Randy, that sure was a pretty paint job. Never got a penny from my accident. I sure hate Insurance companies. Hope it comes out all right. Stick it to them. At least you weren't on it!!
stardbog Posted June 18, 2008 #14 Posted June 18, 2008 Randy. This is just hartbreaking. nail those guys hard at last their insurance CO. Do I smell 2nd gen round a corner. Good luck.

Carbon_One Posted June 18, 2008 #16 Posted June 18, 2008 Sorry to read this about your bike Randy. I really admired it while at Vogal last year. Good luck with following thru and getting compensated for your loss. Hopefully you'll not be out of pocket expenses. Still it's pretty depressing to see your sweet ride treated like curbside trash. Larry
Yama Mama Posted June 18, 2008 #17 Posted June 18, 2008 That really stinks. You had one of the prettiest First Gens on our site. What a terrible thing to happen because of carelessness. I wish you tons of luck. This is an injustice if you do not get all that is do you. Mama
FROG MAN Posted June 18, 2008 #18 Posted June 18, 2008 Randya your lucky to have the video. Sad part you may still lose. Insurance co might total and pay book value around $1200. Thats what our local dmv said my 84 was worth for taxes purposes with only 17 K on it. Keep us posted on your progress.
Dano Posted June 18, 2008 #19 Posted June 18, 2008 Dang, that's a shame, beautiful bike. Good luck on the rebuild. Dan
skydoc_17 Posted June 18, 2008 #20 Posted June 18, 2008 Hey Randya, Your VR was one of the nicest I've seen, I am so sorry to hear about this. dr.nemo Posted June 18, 2008 #21 Posted June 18, 2008 I hate to see a bike layin' down like that....So porch boy knows his GF did it and he gets all excited..!!!???? Do bikes achieve the same status as cars when they age.? Classic, collectors, antique.??? With how scarce parts must be, these bikes should be going up in value now...Sorry for your situation..
Leeway Posted June 18, 2008 #22 Posted June 18, 2008 Randy best of luck on the settlement. Hang 'em high! wayne:080402gudl_prv:
Squeeze Posted June 18, 2008 #23 Posted June 18, 2008 I'm very sorry to read this. Randy, i hope you can get all the Money reimbursed to repair evrything. The custom Paint Job does make the Bike unique and therefore, there's no Way to cut the Payment short.
Squidley Posted June 18, 2008 #24 Posted June 18, 2008 I hate to see your bike like that Randy, I wont even go off on a tirate as I would like to. I hope you can hang this puke and his girlfriend High
Eck Posted June 18, 2008 #25 Posted June 18, 2008 Well I dont know, I mean with one kid screaming for ice cream, the other kid crying due to a dirty diaper, her redneck boyfreind on the porch yelling to look out, the rockwaller chained to and barking in the truck bed, black mascara running in her left eye, answering the ringing cell phone, spilling her fresh cold beer on the seat, and trying to see with out having a side view mirror, how in the world would you expect her to see, hear or know that she knocked your bike over... Hell, I wouldnt have known I hit it either..... dang Randy, give her a break... Ok, with all joking aside Randy, like Redneck said, tell them you want a loaner until the claim is settled....(tell them you want a 2nd Gen loaner too ). As I read the beginning of your post, I too was wondering if your company security by chance had a camera that may have caught the hit & run. Oh, and it is a darn good thing you listened to the bad ash redneck on the porch , cause I would hate to see you be walking away with an A$$ whippin "AND" a wrecked bike..
