bugfish69 Posted June 17, 2008 #1 Posted June 17, 2008 We will be taking a weekend trip from Fredericksburg, VA to my sister's house in Charlotte. Normally we take 360 to 58 to 29 out of VA into Greensboro and then get on 85. This is the first bike trip to her house and that's what we will probably do on the way down. There does not appear to be a good alternative for 85 between Greensboro and Charlotte. On the way back was considering Rte 49 all the way up and across Kerr Lake until I hit 360. Any info on this road, particularly in NC or any other road suggestions.
mini-muffin Posted June 17, 2008 #2 Posted June 17, 2008 Only thing I can say is avoid I40 around Greensboro. They seem to be doing repaving and are closing big sections of it. I can't tell ya where exactly they close it, I can't remember. It caused us a big headache coming back from Ohio. You should get in touch with some of our members out in that part of the state. Hopefully some will post on this. Other then that hope you have a great trip and a safe one. If you do end up on the blue ridge at all and are looking for a place to stay this place is nice. Parkview Lodge & Cabins Hwy 221 milepost 317. They have breakfast and it's a nice little spread. Family run place and they are very friendly. Margaret
ArcsSparks Posted June 17, 2008 #3 Posted June 17, 2008 You chose well rt49 is a good road, stop lites and the like but a good ride. and 85 is the only road betweenGreensboro and Charlotte (when you get to exit 63 give a wave, I'm up the road couple of miles)
