Guindalf Posted June 16, 2008 #1 Posted June 16, 2008 I was out looking for a scooter for my wife (I know, sounds like a fair exchange!) at the weekend when a dealer tempted me to ride an '07 Roadliner. I fell in love with it! Not sure if it was the great sound from the Cobra pipes that were on it or the fact that it's nowhere near as heavy to maneuver as my '03 Midnight Venture, but it got me the bug! Now I know what I'd be giving up, but for pure riding pleasure, I'm tempted to sell or trade the RSMV for either a Roadline, Stratoliner or even a VTX1800T. My scoot has been very much admired for the custom paint, but I have no idea what it's worth on the open market. Anyone have any thoughts? Or better still, anyone wanna buy it???? BTW, it has 26k miles on it and is in very good condition. It's in the gallery here... http://www.venturerider.org/forum/vbpicgallery.php?do=view&g=414 I've added a driver's back rest since the pics were taken.
MAINEAC Posted June 17, 2008 #2 Posted June 17, 2008 With some customizing you don't have to give up much... http://fxstein.com/blog/resserver.php?blogId=1&resource=fxliner.jpg
stardbog Posted June 17, 2008 #3 Posted June 17, 2008 Two Complete diferent rides. I's nice to have Strat, but if i have to chose between Strat and RSV... I'll go with RSV. Strat is not comfortable as RSV. My wife like more RSV too. I Gues we get spoiled with Gadgets, and comfort. I Have 06 Copper and RSV. Strat is nice round town rides, But nothig to compare for long rides to RSV. And That setup sa on maineac pic show will cost you $$$$.$$ Big Bux
Pilot Posted June 17, 2008 #4 Posted June 17, 2008 You only go around once in this life so if you want it buy it. Enjoy the time you have here it's short.
emack Posted June 17, 2008 #5 Posted June 17, 2008 I think you should buy my RSTD so I can buy a new bike.... I'll even throw in a teenager.
Snarley Bill Posted June 17, 2008 #6 Posted June 17, 2008 i went to a v-star 1300 and love it. wife does'nt. so now i have the v-star for short trips and around town and a new wing for the tough stuff. believe it or not we ride my majesty scooter around town most of the time. got 5500 miles on it in a little over a year, just to and from work and around town. at 55 mpg that adds up to alot of gas saved.

I've put 21K miles in the last 18 months on a suzuki burgman scooter going to work..and around, now my wife has the bug and I'm circling like a buzzard in the summer waiting for the $'s and right deal to come together on a RSV.

Talk to me - maybe we can come to an agreement? I'm going to visit a Honda dealer after work and we'll see what he offers. It's difficult 'cos I'm away from home working and don't have the bike with me, but I have pics. This place has great prices on new Hondas, typically $3k below retail, so I'll look at the VTX and see how much the deal is. I know I'm going to be upside down on the financing - it just depends how much.
tazmocycle Posted June 18, 2008 #9 Posted June 18, 2008 i rode a strat couple of times but didn't like it. while my bike was in the shop for an estimate, i rode a friend's roadie to savanna, ga about 1,000 miles round trip and couldn't get use to it. high 90's to 104 temp and it was hottt on the body when you stop. tried 100 differant positions, memory foam pad tooo. got my 01 royal back today!!! felt like an old shoe, love it. but that why they make so many differant models!!!
mountainhorsega Posted June 18, 2008 #10 Posted June 18, 2008 Guindalf - you still in dalton today? You talking about southern Honda in Rossville or Pye here in Dalton. Every time I have been to Southern, they have had GREAT prices compared to Pye.

Every time I have been to Southern, they have had GREAT prices compared to Pye. Yes, I'm in Dalton all week and probably the next couple too! I took a drive out to Southern last night and they DO have great prices. I was tempted by a nice 07 VTX1800, but their trade in prices are very low (probably because of their low new prices!). Just going by a picture, their initial offer was $1200 less than I was offered against a discounted roadliner at the weekend and WAY too low for me to consider. The salesman told me to sell my bike privately, which is what I'd planned to do anyway. The custom paint on mine is something that a private buyer would pay a little more for where a dealer wouldn't.
MAINEAC Posted June 18, 2008 #12 Posted June 18, 2008 You might want to read this... MegaTwin Motorcycle Comparison - Ride of the Giants
Guindalf Posted June 19, 2008 Author #13 Posted June 19, 2008 Interesting read, but as with most reviews, can be taken with a grain of salt. There's a big difference between someone reviewing a bike and someone commenting on one they own - just ask any Kia or Hyundai reviewer/owner! I'm still not sure what I want to do - if anything - but for the kind of riding I do, would like to consider something a little lighter.

Guindalf Posted June 19, 2008 Author #15 Posted June 19, 2008 Well, Lawrenceville Honda has some good prices on both Honda and Yamaha AND it has some scooters that may interest the wife, so guess where I'll be on Saturday! Also noticed that buying prior model years (still new) makes sense on the saving money front! I don't care what year it says on the front fork as long as it runs and rides well - and has the same warranty!! Anyway, this way I can satisfy her and shop for me at the same time. There are some interesting off-brand scooters out there including one (in Canton) with remote start and alarm for under $1800!
Freebird Posted June 19, 2008 #16 Posted June 19, 2008 HEY NOW....we have had my wife's Kia Sorrento for about 3 years now. Never a problem and it's never been in the shop for any reason. 4X4, plenty of power and pretty comfortable. She loves it. I haven't driven it that much but the few times I have, I like it.
Guindalf Posted June 19, 2008 Author #17 Posted June 19, 2008 I was taling about the cars, Dan, not the SUVs! /me backs out slowly
Freebird Posted June 19, 2008 #18 Posted June 19, 2008 LOL...no offense taken. The Kia's were kind of like Honda when they first started being sold in the USA. Lot's of quality issues. They have come a long way since then though and we have had no problems at all so far. Besides, I understand that they are building a new factory and will be making them in Georgia soon.
tmodel Posted June 19, 2008 #19 Posted June 19, 2008 I think you should buy my RSTD so I can buy a new bike.... I'll even throw in a teenager. You gonna have to remove that teenager or it will decrease the value of your scoot!!!!
