Dunlop D404F

A couple weeks ago had our Yamaha dealer install a new Dunlop D404 Front on the Venture.

$160 for the tire and $32 install.

This AM rolled the Venture out for a ride and heard a thumping coming from the front. Checked it out and found a screw sticking out of the front tire. Bummer!!!!!!

Haven't checked yet to see if it is loosing air but am reluctant to run it even if it isn't. What do you think?

Where is a good online site to buy a new D404?

Seemed like the $160 was a little steep.

Actually, that price seems pretty much in line. I paid around $180 for my Elite II with a 25% discount. My cousin's son is the service manager at our local dealer...

The heck it is!!! I just bought a pair of Dunlop 404 wide white walls. The pair cost me about $180. The front was about $90.

I removed the screw and the tire is not loosing air at all but am nervous if possibly the tire has been weakend to the point where, down the line it could give me trouble?

What do you think?

The screw was in on a 45 deg. angle and in about 3/4".

I would suggest adding some Ride-On tire sealant to the tire. That way if the screw hole did indeed develop a leak later then the sealant will do it's job and plug it. Just insurance in my minds eye. I do use this product and have full faith in it in my bikes tires as well as just adding some to my mc trailer today.

Carbob-One is correct.

Ride-One is the best product there is!

 

I have used it for several years now.

Just returned from 4,000 mile trip to the Canadian Border and back. Had Ride-on in the tires and never lost any pressure.

 

The stuff will give you piece of mind!

Personally, I rufuse to put ANYTHING in my tires but air. I believe that if there was value and not bad in stuff to stick in there, the tire companies would have long ago decided to start selling it themselves to sock in that extra profit they would get by endorsing any particular product, whether it is for balance or puncture seal.

 

HOWEVER, even after saying all that, this is one situation where I MIGHT consider adding a puncture-seal product to my tire, just for added insurance. Just something to think about. For me, it would all depend on what the initial damage looked like and how I happened to be thinking on that particular day. Like I said up front, I normally refuse to consider adding a foreign substance to my tires.
