I've got an Ultraguard cover right now that has just, unfortunately, ripped. This cover is thin enough that I can fold it up and put it in the saddle bag and, if scrunched down, leaves about 1/2 the saddle bag still available. This is a full cover with windshield protection and heat shield on the bottom.

 

I looked at covers on line but you just don't know how thick, heavy and bulky they are on line.

 

I was wondering it anyone uses a similar cover, for their RSV, and what kind and model it is. I like it because it doesn't take up much space and I can take it with me and cover the bike anywhere.

 

Any suggestions?

I would be inclined to take it to a shoe repair or luggage repair business and let them have a look. The local guy here has fixed tears and rips in my leather and fabrics so you really done notice and its always real reasonable.

I have the Yamaha Heavy duty cover but it takes up to much room to carry with me. I bought a half cover from Cruiser Customizing....packs small and don't take up to much room.

I purchased the extra large bike cover from Wal-Mart...

Fits & works fine and I have had it for three years now.

It folds up rather small then fits inside a small pull string bag which fits in the side bag as well leaving lots of extra available space for my rain wear...

for got what it cost but I think it was around $15.00 to $20.00

Yeah I'd thought about that. We've got a "Canvas Guy" (actually, that's what the guy's got written on his truck) that lives down the street and I'm going to run it over there and see what he suggests. Truth is this thing is pretty well used so it may just be time.

I bought a two cover set from Gorilla covers for my XV920 on EBAY. It came with a lined heavy duty waterproof cover and a lightweight travel cover. I never used the travel cover because it felt too light to me for all of the wind we had been having.

 

I bought another cover for the RSTC on EBAY also. It is a lighter weight and folds compactly only taking up 1/3 of my space in a saddlebag. It comes with a pouch and I just use bungee cords for hoolking it up to my sissy bar.. I've been quite happy with it to date and it was stabile through some hefty storms and rain.

Depends on what you want. If you leave it outside all the time, you'll want something heavy. But if your main concern is taking trips, or just covering for the day, WalMart carries a lightweight cover that I and several other HD and Wing riders I ride with are using. And for the price you can replace it two or three times, in the event you do get it damaged.

Yeah, just something for trips and during the day at work. That's 2 for the Wal-Mart cover. I've been looking there though and didn't see much. I'll have to look again.

I have had my bike over 12 years and have had several covers, most costing about $60 or more. I have found the $20 one Walmart sells just as good as any of them, stores easy with a pouch and if someone stole it, I would not be out much.

I have a pretty neat one that is really a half cover. Its really compact and covers the fairing seats and trunk. Real nice if you need to leave it out in the rain. Keeps the seat and handlebars dry and very nice to travel. I dont need a full cover as I keep it in the garage but protects is on the road.

Since I'm storage challenged, and have lots of bikes, I've had to buy several covers. The full covers I use for all-weather are off Ebay. They're called Cycle Sak's, and the price is right....a little over $30 bucks shipped... and I usually get 4-5 years of heavy UV exposure out of one. Very bulky and bullet proof. I also have a full cover made out of a lightweight rip-stop nylon that I carry when on overnighters. Looks like spinnaker material. Packs away into a very small footprint and is great for those short term needs.

I use the Wal Mart cover that Eck mentioned. Been using the same one for 4 years. It doesn't take up much room and does a decent job of protecting the bike. It has been on during some pretty serious storms.

I use a cover I bought from a after market vendor for about $15.00. It's made from a heavy mil thickness plastic material that looks like a big grey garbage bag. It may not have that Designer, "I paid big bucks :mo money:for this cover" looks but, it serves my purpose nicely. My main concern was to keep moisture off the bike when I have to park it outside in the rain. It works perfectly for that and when neatly folded and rolled up fits nicely in the lid of one of the saddle bags. I have compressed it enough to fit in the space behind the seat and under the passenger backrest of an 87 Venture Royale.

 

I've had the cover for over a year and have found it to be very durable. It did get a small rip in it once which was easily patched with a piece of plastic shipping tape.

 

In fact the cover actually saved my life recently when I got caught in a wind, rain and sleet storm on the top of Mt Mitchell, NC. The weather got too bad to coninue and I was forced to make an emergency stop in the middle of the night and in the middle of nowhere. I pulled up in front of a closed truck stop and threw the cover over the bike and crawled up under it with a collapsable chair and two sleeping bags. The wind blew at gale force with the rain and Ice but I stayed warm and dry under the cover. Had it not been for what sounded like Elk bugleing and Coyotes howling all around me all night I'm sure I would have gotten some sound shut eye. As it was I did manage to get a few hours sleep until the paper man woke me up the next morning because I was blocking his access to the paper boxes.

You guys that got covers at Wal-Mart. What color are they, what brand and where did you find them in the store? There's a very small motorcycle section at our Wal-Mart so I'm hoping that they even have this stuff.

I get my @ menards, I'm positive sure that's same one as Wall Mart. $20.00. Color is silver - blue work's great. This is my third season and no rips. I think they call'em XL or for touring bikes.

and yes they is padind for windshield, and heat shield for mufflers.

Don't know if you're interested, but I keep a half cover when traveling. It saves a lot of space. I also use it all summer if I'm going to be off the bike for a while. It reallly keeps the bike a lot cooler that without it. I use the XL

Okay, I want to know why, in heavens name, any company would make a cover black. I'd think that that would tend to make the bike just that much hotter out in the sun.

 

Someone did a test and found that black (dark) cars get, like, 10º hotter in the sun than light ones do. I'd think the same would hold true for a cover.

I didn't read thru this entire thread, so maybe someone else posted the same info. For the past several years I've been using a Weathershield cover for bikes as well as my beloved Miata. One of the best things about this cover is it compresses down to an almost amazingly small form. The bike size, even the largest for a tourer, would compact down to about the size of a lunch pail. The material is very soft, and is one piece, ie there are no laminations or layers. It is very water resistent, breathes, machine washable, and they last a long time. My Miata cover is now 8 years old, and tho showing some wear, is still in good shape. My son uses one on my VTX that is about 5 years old. I'm about to order one for my new Venture. Best source I've found is JC Whitney. Probably run you around $170 for the large size. Kind of pricey, but in this case I think you get a lot for your money. I wouldn't have anything else, and yes I have had some other covers, including the VERY bulky royal star cover that Yam made back in 1997, that only last two years before it started falling apart.

It doesn't make the bike hotter. It keeps the sun off the bike and 90% of the cover isn't touching the bike anyway. Plenty of airflow through it also.

If you are just looking for a sun shade take a look at these. I saw them in Myrtle Beach and they were really nice. Not going to protect the bike from rain but they are really lightweight.
