tex_waco_usmc Posted February 20 #1 Posted February 20 Just bought an 08 Royal Star Venture that has been sitting for almost 10 years in a shop. I needed something to keep my hands from being idle after a hernia surgery as I’m not allowed to lift anything heavy. My son is helping me when it comes to the lifting portion of the work. After fixing a wiring issue to regain spark (someone had cut the wires to the lean/crash sensor) I was able to hear her come to life on ether. But, carbs obviously needed rebuilt and fuel system cleaned. I bought the kits and tore down, Sonic bath and rebuilt with new parts. The kits didn’t come with the throttle shaft seals. This wasn’t a problem on any but the last one because the seals were in good shape. I’ve searched and searched and can’t find a listing for the throttle shaft seal. Does anyone know where I can get one or a pair of these seals? Not my first rodeo turning wrenches, however, I will admit it has been a while on a bike.
Woody Posted February 20 #2 Posted February 20 Welcome to Venture Riders and sounds like you have gotten yourself a project.
tex_waco_usmc Posted February 20 Author #3 Posted February 20 Yes it’s a bit of a project but as I can’t do much else it has worked out pretty good so far. Nothing but time on my hands to tinker with it.
tex_waco_usmc Posted February 20 Author #4 Posted February 20 Ok, so went down to the local power sports place and asked the service manager if he had some old carbs on a shelf that they scavenge parts from. for a case of beer I walked out with an old Mikuni carb set that was not identical but mic’d the shaft and seal and they were the same! Now I’m back in business. now on to final adjustments of float height, air/fuel mix screws and verify I have the right jets in the right carb (as I found out they are different between carbs)… any tips would be greatly appreciated. 1
lmgk77 Posted February 21 #5 Posted February 21 Good morning, I too have gone down this quest to replace Mikuni shaft and seals. I have the conclusion that the shafts a an item that are only acquired thru donor carbs .As for the shaft seals, one has to search other makes of bikes that uses Mikuni carb(s). I have found the seals thru Suzuki. These match in every dimension, it's one of those mysteries why Yamaha doesn't list this part under it's own banner ...............and the bonus was I able to order the part and get it 3 days regular mail shipping. Suzuki 13651-51011 Here's a photo of the part. I am curious how the R/R shafts go for you....good luck.

I would think that all the jets should be the same in the same position, no matter the carb. There could be different sizes in different positions though.

I'll post a bit of the instructions later tonight.
Marcarl Posted February 25 #8 Posted February 25 Parts fich shows that 1+2 are the same, 3 is different and 4 is more different.
