Engine light?

I have a 2006 Yamaha royal star venture and I can putt around all day and the engine light will not come on but if I get on it just once when it's warmed up it comes on. I turn the key off and turn the bike back on ,no light till I get on it abit. Any idea what is going on? How do you check to see if there are codes?

Check your oil level. Half way up the glass, no more no less, bike standing straight up.

Not sure about thevsecond gens but the 1st  gens had an oil level sensor. If the level was low the light came on but but sometimes depending on were the level was at the light would come on during certian riding conditions. Also check your wiring condition tomthecsensor.
