Precious Posted October 22 #1 Posted October 22 I'm back! So, I need to replace the carb boots. They all have cracks, causing decel backfiring after the bike sat for 8 years. Seats off, tanks off, air box is out...now how the heck do I get the carbs out? I found 1 video on line, but it wasn't very helpful. I also want to replace the ungodly air box and just put nice little air cleaners on the carbs, is that possible? Thanks and for those of us in the colder climes, we will get through PMS (Parked Motorcycle Syndrome) LOL
BlueSky Posted October 26 #2 Posted October 26 I replaced the carb boots on my Kawasaki because they were cracked. But, when I removed them I saw that the cracks did not go through and they were not leaking. Those POD air filters change the jetting requirements. In other words bikes don't usually run right when you use those.
Precious Posted October 26 Author #3 Posted October 26 Thanks for the reply. I did the spray test to check for the vaccum leaks and every one responded as indicated, increased rpm. The bike sat for 8 years and I had to replace the tires, so it stood to reason that much, if not all rubber components had deteriorated. As for replacing the big ugly, cumbersome air box, I know I'll have to rejet the carbs. Still need to know how to get them off.
Marcarl Posted October 26 #4 Posted October 26 You'll need to remove the fuel tank I think, the loosen the clamps holding the carbs to the boots, then it takes a bit of pressure to pop them out of the boots one at a time. A curved pry bar would be helpful in this case. Do not loosen the boots from the intakes, they should stay put so that the carbs can be pried off. Make sure all the fuel lines and cables are off. All 4 carbs come off as one unit. I think that might be right.
Precious Posted October 27 Author #5 Posted October 27 Much thanks! That was kinda what I figured based on a video, but it didn't really explainit the way you just did! Again much thanks.
