Chaharly Posted July 29 Share #1 Posted July 29 Got an interesting one for you guys today. Noticed the speedometer needle bouncing up and down on bumpy roads and it’s gotten progressively worse. Checked out the cable where it mounts up at the front wheel, gave it a little wiggle and the cable separated from the threaded nut! It sheared right off! I’ve got a replacement ordered from eBay, but I don’t really want to leave the bike sit for a week. What kind of creative way can I use to get it to stay together? FaceDeAce Posted July 29 Share #2 Posted July 29 Some ideas: 1. drive by Tach. If you’ve ridden the bike much you would have developed and feel and know what rpm is at different standard posted speeds for the roads you frequented. 2. drive by smartphone. Most map apps on phones now give speed indication.
Marcarl Posted July 29 Share #3 Posted July 29 Take the old insert out and toss it. Form a plastic washer to fit in the connection, Screw it together. It doesn't have to be leak proof, just dust resistant. Hope you ate replacing the jacket as well as the insert.

Chaharly Posted July 30 Author Share #5 Posted July 30 (edited) What do you mean by insert Marcarl? The threaded portion that screws to the hub? Edited July 30 by Chaharly
Marcarl Posted July 30 Share #6 Posted July 30 Guess what you might call the cable, the inner flex shaft.
Chaharly Posted August 1 Author Share #7 Posted August 1 I went ahead and replaced the cable. The job was more straightforward than I thought it would be. Take off the windshield trim, windshield, the hood for the speedo, which is four screws, the top two need to be removed and the bottom two just need to be loosened. I was reading on here to take out 4x 10mm nuts that hold the speedo to the frame. This is not necessary, there are two 10mm BOLTS that hold the entire frame assembly onto the bike, jut remove those two, unplug the monitor plugs and move it so you have enough room to get a pliers on the cable. All seems to be good now.
