Pasta Burner Posted September 29, 2023 #1 Posted September 29, 2023 IMG_2095.MOV 99 Camry 211K miles. Got ran dry of oil last week now this. I have my suspicion but want some other seasoned mechanics to weigh in. Thanks in advance
Freebird Posted September 29, 2023 #2 Posted September 29, 2023 I’m no expert but sounds like a rod knocking. Probably needs a complete rebuild or new engine. 1
BlueSky Posted September 30, 2023 #3 Posted September 30, 2023 A hose to the ear moved to various places on the engine may locate the sound better. Or even remove the valve cover to see if it's valve related. 1
saddlebum Posted September 30, 2023 #4 Posted September 30, 2023 Pretty much sounds like bottom end rod knock to me. Chances are good crank is pooched as well. Top end would normally have more of higher pitch tapping sound versus a heavy knock. I would probably look for a good used engine rather than spend the time and expense of rebuilding. Drain the oil into a clean container and see what comes out with the oil.
Steve S Posted September 30, 2023 #5 Posted September 30, 2023 Sounds like a bad rod bearing being beaten out. Lack of oil will cause that every time.
