funrider Posted June 9, 2008 #1 Posted June 9, 2008 just wondering how my bike is running compared to others. 1987 venture. I have opened my bike up to 115 and she still was climbing strong. In low gear at about 15 mph, if I hit the gas hard, it will bring the front wheel off the ground. How does that compare with others. I think mine could use a carb adjustment but not to bad.
SilvrT Posted June 9, 2008 #2 Posted June 9, 2008 I have an '87 also... sound to me like yours is running pretty badly... mine has lot's left at 150mph and I can pull the front wheel at 15mph in 3rd gear....
Gearhead Posted June 9, 2008 #3 Posted June 9, 2008 Uhhh...well...a tuneup's always good, but that sounds pretty strong to me... I've never taken mine over 100 - my limit, not the bike's. They will sometimes develop a weave at speed, though, and sometimes unexpectedly. Make sure your tires, wheel bearings, suspension bushings and steering head bearings are good. Jeremy
Black Owl Posted June 10, 2008 #4 Posted June 10, 2008 John, Sounds to me like your scoot is performing about average. Of course a carb sync is always a good thing. I see you are only about 3 hours away from Laporte, MN. So, here's a thought. Come Labor Day, why don't you swing on over to the Pork in the Pines. Meet some great folks, enjoy some good food, and let someone sync your carbs.
Yammer Dan Posted June 10, 2008 #5 Posted June 10, 2008 And the 83's are the strongest... Makes you wonder don't it???
Venturous Randy Posted June 11, 2008 #6 Posted June 11, 2008 And the 83's are the strongest... Makes you wonder don't it??? Yep, the 83's, the firstest and the fastest. RandyA
Yammer Dan Posted June 13, 2008 #8 Posted June 13, 2008 Guess I'm right behind ya, huh?! With the 84's you don't have to worry about frame!!
Naked Rider Posted June 13, 2008 #9 Posted June 13, 2008 i had a 83 and one day i wanted to see what she would do. i got about to 115mph and the front end started to come up off the ground there was a wing below the radiator with some lites on it i figured the wind caught the wing after that i never got it up past 80 to scared i guess.
Dano Posted June 13, 2008 #10 Posted June 13, 2008 SO that's why you went to the slower RSV, huh?!?!?!?!? :stirthepot: DAN
Guest bsreg Posted June 14, 2008 #11 Posted June 14, 2008 I was a bit upset the other day.... when the leo pulled my 1984 over he was a touch upset. He indicated he clocked it at 218 mph yes that is 218 mph and I was still only in third gear. I was just getting ready to speed up a touch to shift but his blue lights went off....
Guest bsreg Posted June 14, 2008 #12 Posted June 14, 2008 In case anyone is interested I have some really nice land available down in the bayous of south La. This is prime land which is naturally irrigated... Will sell very affordable. Also I have a bridge up in Brooklyn that I will let go at a steal...
