CrazyHorse Posted June 10, 2008 #26 Posted June 10, 2008 If I remember right Honda wanted to give a sports bike agility and quickness to this version of the GW I'd say they've come close.
buddy Posted June 10, 2008 #27 Posted June 10, 2008 To each his own... Everybody has his or her opinion on motorcycles which is fine. But for me and my wife the Gold Wing fits us better. So if this bothers some of the family here so be it. But I'm not sorry for what I ride. I really do like the Venture's very much. I still have my First Gen. But the Second Gen. is to top heavy for me.. So lets not make a big deal over this please. Some of us just have to ride something else due to our health or for our love ones health. The Gold Wing is better balance for my knees and better seating for my wifes back . I know we pick on each other for what we ride but at times we can get carried away with it so lets not get out of hand with this OK. Buddy
Freebird Posted June 10, 2008 #28 Posted June 10, 2008 All in good fun my friend. Not NEARLY as bad as the first gen against second gen ragging. I don't think that there is anybody here who truly cares what kind of bike a person rides. I know that I don't. I ride the RSV because it happens to fit me best. I can tell you for a fact, if the Wing fit me better then that is what I would be riding. So...please just take it all in stride. Sure don't want you getting annoyed and leaving us. You are family, regardless of what you ride.
jrcain32 Posted June 10, 2008 #29 Posted June 10, 2008 I agree with Buddy. Sometimes we can go overboard with our "jabbbing". I don't care what you ride as long as you are happy. Most of my friends ride Harleys and I have no desire to have one. I jab them all every chance I get but I know when to ease-up. While we are talking about GWs, don't they have reverse on them or did I dream that? The reason I ask is because Sunday I watched a guy get on his and try to push it back with his legs. He was having a hard time. If it has a reverse why not use it.

Some of the newer models do have reverse...the 1800's do...not sure about the 1500's as I have never owned a 1500...I know the earlier 1200's did not. I have an 1800 now...I have also owed a 1200 in the past. I hardly ever use my reverse...it works...but it is somewhat weak and slow. I think I use it a couple of times each year just to engage the motor.
Snarley Bill Posted June 10, 2008 Author #31 Posted June 10, 2008 i agree with buddy and don. i liked my royal star but legs just would'nt take the weight anymore. came close to dumping it many times to the point where my wife was scared to get on it. i really love this wing. no bikes perfect and the foot pegs were my problem. have that worked out now. i,m not a traitor to yamaha. i love all bikes, be they ugly, terrible riding, etc. never seriously made fun of what someone else rides, although i some times can't figure their choice. if you enjoy having and riding what you have thats what it's all about. you still ain't gonna run me off no matter what i ride.

There is also an aftermarket back-up beeper alarm that is very cool for showing off and for irritating the Pirate look-alike crowd. It has an on-off switch for when you don't want to irritate anybody too.
Snarley Bill Posted June 10, 2008 Author #33 Posted June 10, 2008 i used my reverse one time so far. backing out of wtho's driveway. i used to have to plan ahead how to park there now i can just pull in, and back out. going to keep an eye out for them pirates. :rotf:
dynodon Posted June 10, 2008 #34 Posted June 10, 2008 Just for giggles, I joined the local Gold Wing club and went on a ride with them for the first time last week. I have to say I had to work my VR really hard to keep up, and it just wasn't straight line acceleration, these guys (most older than me) were going through curves MUCH faster than any group I have ridden with to date. May have to take a GW for a ride soon to see what it is all about.

May have to take a GW for a ride soon to see what it is all about. they are ultra powerful, and handle like a crotch rocket. well, almost. big thing is they have so much low end torque you don't have to down shift unless you drop below 30 mph. will walk up most any hill two up at 40 and excelerate. with out shifting down. no bucking or shaking. just like a turbine.
mraf Posted June 10, 2008 #36 Posted June 10, 2008 Glad you figured out what was the problem. I too just bought new boots and had a hard time coming to a stop the other day on my VR. They are pretty aggressive on the bottom which makes for harder {Gotta lift not drag foot off footpegs} manipulation. Amazing how something so simple can ruin your day. On the other note about what we all ride I have to say anything with extremely high {Monkey bars} handlebars just doesn't make sense to me. But each to his own.
Eck Posted June 11, 2008 #37 Posted June 11, 2008 ah, I still have to agree with Redneck....your still a traitor...
Snarley Bill Posted June 11, 2008 Author #38 Posted June 11, 2008 ah, I still have to agree with Redneck....your still a traitor... now eck be nice, i still have two yammers. not going to get rid of them. redneck is just mad cuz his legs are to long. us short guys are better looking to.
shooter3001 Posted June 11, 2008 #39 Posted June 11, 2008 rode my new wing over 300 miles today and these darn footpegs are dealing me a fit. they are exactly in the position where i have to put mt feet down when i stop, and they really stick out there. having one heck of a time timing putting my feet down and stopping. it is really getting frustrating. i almost feel like a newby rider. it is worst then my rstd was at low speeds. other than that it is awesome. any of you goldwing boys got any ideas? bill:2133: A friend of mine that has been riding HD Electroglides for year just sold his HD and bought a 2008 Wing and the only thing he didn't like about it was the foot pegs and no heel toe shifter. Easy fix, Kuryaken makes a Drivers floorboard and heel toe shift for the Wings. I did the install for him and it took all of about 30 min. to do. Best price I found for them is at www.wingstuff.com.
