Snarley Bill Posted June 7, 2008 #1 Posted June 7, 2008 rode my new wing over 300 miles today and these darn footpegs are dealing me a fit. they are exactly in the position where i have to put mt feet down when i stop, and they really stick out there. having one heck of a time timing putting my feet down and stopping. it is really getting frustrating. i almost feel like a newby rider. it is worst then my rstd was at low speeds. other than that it is awesome. any of you goldwing boys got any ideas? bill:2133:
Squeeze Posted June 7, 2008 #2 Posted June 7, 2008 order the new Vmax ... :rotf::rotf::rotf: Just kidding, of Course
91nwl Posted June 7, 2008 #3 Posted June 7, 2008 The footpegs are not a problem when you get used to them. How tall are you?
Tom Posted June 7, 2008 #4 Posted June 7, 2008 Bill,I test rode one a few weeks ago and YES,the footpegs were VERY much in the way..I also have bad knees and it bothered me in that position, does it bother your knees in that semi tucked position? Other than that a FANTASTIC bike. Tom
DragonRider Posted June 7, 2008 #5 Posted June 7, 2008 Switch back to the V Star 1300............:stirthepot: got any ideas? bill:2133:
Midrsv Posted June 7, 2008 #6 Posted June 7, 2008 I have the same problem with the wings. That's why I have a Venture. 3 of my friends are riding wings and they are all over 6'2 and they don't have the same problem as me. Their legs extend beyond the pegs easily. DT
Redneck Posted June 7, 2008 #7 Posted June 7, 2008 Ha thats what you get for buying a honda you damn traitor.:rotf::rotf:
Steve S Posted June 7, 2008 #8 Posted June 7, 2008 Bill. I was slobbering over some new bikes last year, (no, I wasn't a serious shopper), and one was a beautiful gunmetal Goldwing. I commented that I couldn't handle the foot pegs and would have to have floorboards and road pegs. The salesman offered install floorboards and new shift levers for the price of the parts. Even though I knew I wasn't going to buy the bike, I thought that was a pretty good offer. I couldn't imagine riding a bike with out floorboards and a heel shifter. That may be one of your options if you keep having that problem. They are kinda pricey though. At that time it seems they ran around $250 for the boards and shifter. Good luck and enjoy your new ride.

The footpegs are not a problem when you get used to them. How tall are you? so once ya get used to having them jabbing you in the legs its much better? Bill,I test rode one a few weeks ago and YES,the footpegs were VERY much in the way..I also have bad knees and it bothered me in that position, does it bother your knees in that semi tucked position? Other than that a FANTASTIC bike. Tom so its a great bike as long as you dont mind being in pain when your looking cool on your scoot! / ok im starting to understand now:whistling: Bill. Other than that a FANTASTIC bike. Tom actually the seating position does'nt bother me at all. knees not the problem. just getting my feet on the ground is the big problem. i will get used to it. think i will do more stopping and practice. other than that no complaints at all. what a ride.

BILL, before you pull out that "forty-matic", i want you to remember, I didn't rag on ya, or your new scoot! lol:whistling: REDNECK did it! just jt
buddy Posted June 8, 2008 #14 Posted June 8, 2008 The Gold Wing and the First Gen. have the same set up so I'm used to the pegs being there. Your used to the forward set up on the Second Gen. & 1300. It will come back to you, Should be pretty close to the same set up as your other race bikes you have, they have no forward set up.? Besides if they ever come out with the Third Gen. Red neck would park his Second Gen. in a heart beat just to get a better ride:stirthepot:
Snarley Bill Posted June 8, 2008 Author #15 Posted June 8, 2008 got the problem cured. just went for a midnight ride and wore different shoes. soles on the work boots i've been wearing are just to thick and heavy. big improvement. probably have to learn to ride my vstar all over again after the newness wears off the wing. did drag the highway boards in a curve today showing off for some guy following me on a harley. this thing will cut a mean curve.
91nwl Posted June 8, 2008 #16 Posted June 8, 2008 This guy, who calls himself Yellow Wolf, carves up some curves pretty good on a GL1800. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kFleFrJx7nw]YouTube - Goldwing at Dragon Tail[/ame]

Bill buy yourself one of those darn trike kits, then you won't have to get used to it.:mo money:
Orrin Posted June 8, 2008 #18 Posted June 8, 2008 Bill, Took me a while, too! You will get used to handling and POWER! I certainly enjoy mine when it is not raining. By the way these bike run great in the rain. Really stick to the road.
Guest JGorom Posted June 8, 2008 #19 Posted June 8, 2008 other than that it is awesome. any of you goldwing boys got any ideas? bill:2133: Well Bill...I gave you a suggestion on the Kuryakyn replacements I use...but it sounds as if even those would not work for you as you describe your issues with the pegs. So my new solution for you is to trike it!
Steve S Posted June 8, 2008 #20 Posted June 8, 2008 a good offer would have been for him to put them on for you to make the sale at the price of a wing Dray. If I would have been serious about buying it I would have tried that. However, I was at a "no haggle" dealer in Union City Tn. that quotes you a price out the door. If you want it fine, if you dont, they won't argue. With that said, they have the best prices in that part of the country. It was really, really, hard to walk away from that bike. The problem I have is the Wing just doesn't fit me.

So my new solution for you is to trike it! just got back from a long ride this morning. no problems at all. it's all about the footwear. i said along time ago.i quit riding tricycles, and wearing diapers along time ago and i sure ain't never going to do it again. when i can't handle two wheels, i'll buy a convertible. not that i'm knocking trikes, just not for me.

I liked most things about the Wings, but when the 03s came out the ergos were so changed that I could no longer live with it. Yes the footpegs get in the way. I'm sure the major cause is the motor layout. six cylinders is nothing but a marketing gadget, there's no need for six cylinders on a motorcycle. A four cylinder is perfect for smoothness, and for that matter 2 cylinders makes the most sense. But Honda went with the sixer, and they're stuck with it. Result is a bike with very poor ergos for most people. They lock the feet into a tight space. If you want to move them forward, you have to spread your legs out to gynecological proportions, which IMO isn't very manly, LOL. This is the main reason (alongside the overheating and frame cracking in the 1800s which finally worried me to death) that I sold my 03 and went to cruisers. If you ask me, the Venture is the perfect combination of things. Cruiser looks, great ergos, smooth, powerful, and even costs less, and didn't have to pay an extra $600 for the CB. Hard to beat.
Guest tx2sturgis Posted June 8, 2008 #23 Posted June 8, 2008 Stick a V4 motor in the wing....voila! Now you can add footboards.

Me no grok this equation. How can the bike be "wonderful" if such a major portion of the riding experience "sucks?" I think I'll stick with a bike I actually like! Goose
