OK ventureriders,

Here is the thread that I am starting on what you can see if you come to the 2008 International Rally. I hope many more of my local riding buddies will contribute many more posts below (one item per post would be neat) but contribute as many posts as you want.

 

I'll start with the "Kissing Bridge", the only remaining covered bridge open to auto traffic in Ontario. I won't talk about how it lives up to its name when the ladies flock to watch a beautiful brown 86 VR and its handsome rider go through it.

ATTA BOY, Swifty! Tell 'em about the nice roads! Beautiful pavement in Canada. And the free beer and fine women. Or was that fine beer and free women? Either way!

And the race around Lake Huron. And the ride into Quebec where you can make fun of the French. Tell 'em Swifty, tell 'em!!!

Things you might see and find at the INTERNATIONAL Venture Rally:

• people of all races, backgrounds and religions having a good time and without prejudice, with a common bond, that being riding and specifically riding a Yamaha Venture motorcycle
  
• real good beer, and many choices at that
  
• metric signs
  
• real nice, fine women (and most likely some real nice fine men, if you so choose to look for them)
  
• Niagara Falls (from the pretty side) - you may even have a glimpse at the Falls from the "not-so-pretty" side
  
• higher gas prices than what you're probably used to
  
• provinces instead of states
  
• more "bang" for your american $ (currently trading at 2% over the canadian buck)
  
• the $1 coin
  
• the $2 coin
  
• the amish and mennonite culture in St Jacob's and surrounding area (and don't forget their wonderful food)
  
• the diversity in cultures in downtown Toronto (if you so choose to travel into the big city)
  
• the CN Tower - one of the largest freestanding towers in the world
  
• the shores of Lake Huron, Lake Erie, Lake Ontario and maybe even Lake St. Clair
  
• the "Ontario Badlands"
  
• Port Dover (home of the Friday the 13th motorcycle event)
  
• the Muskokas and their wonderful roads
  
• roads - some paved, some gravel (all depends on where you choose to go)
  
• no smoking laws for all restaurants
  
• people who speak multiple languages, including french (as first language spoken in the province of Quebec and somewhat in the province of New Brunswick)
  

Things you likely won't see:

• mountains such as the ones you might have experienced in Colorado
  
• free beer, unless you happen to befriend a canuck who might offer you one
  
• Quebec - unless, of course, you're willing to travel east for about 800+ kms (500+ miles)
  
• free women (or men?) - sorry, not much in life is free these days and there's ALWAYS a price to pay
  
• as many Canadian flags on people's homes as you would see Stars & Stripes in the US (we ARE patriotic too, but not as "demonstrative" about it)
  
• a national election

And Tobermory...the northern end of the Niagara Escarpment as it runs through Ontario, and home to Fathom Five Marine Park, SUBA diving Capital of Canada, and a World Biosphere Reserve. And speaking of the Escarpment...that's the famous shelf that caused Niagara Falls to form...and its my childhood stompin ground. Kitchener is about half way between Collingwood and Niagara Falls. Wow, this whole area is a must see, EH?

And Do not forget one of the more Famous places in Ontario, Now called New Tecumseth, previously called Alliston.

 

This little town may be on our route as we head North to the Muskokas. In the past few years this town has grown and big business has moved here, such as Honda's engine building plant and they even have a hospital now.

 

BUT this town is most known for it Citizens and our very own Mr. Owl. We still consider you Canadian Eh !

You think they would have gotten a better looking model with a newer bike to pose by the sign, eh?

There's a ferry that runs from Tobermory to South Baymouth - we we're gonna take that route in '05, but stayed on the north shore instead. Yes, I rode across Ontario from Prescott to Slt. St. Marie on TC-17 (mostly) and lived to tell the tale. Very nice country, excellent roads.

Beaver Valley? Is that where the free women are? :rotf:C'mon - you didn't think I could pass that up? Now if the Kissing Bridge was actually IN Beaver Valley - now that would be something! LMAO

And if a picture of a water tower doesn't make you want to ride up to Canuckland - I don't know what it would take! LOL

What about the igloos? Will there be lots of igloos? And Mooses - there are mooses EVERYWHERE! They're like squirrels in the states, I'm telling ya! And the LEGAL speed limit is like 80.................I wish I knew what kph meant, tho.

So C'mon folks - fuel up the bike, tie out the dog and lock up your women (or the other way around), grab your parka and long johns and head for the Great White North. I wish I could be there - these guys have gone to a lot of trouble to set this up. And there are few things I enjoy more than raising hell in a foreign country. Maybe that's why I can't go back ............................?????

I think the greatest thing to see would be each other.

I’ve read a lot of posts, heard a lot of opinions, seen a lot of scoots, been a lot of places, read a lot of stories and sent a lot of prayers. This is an opportunity for us to meet the person behind the screen. Breakfast together sounds great, nothing like fueling up for a day of riding with friends. As different as we may be, we all share at least one thing in common.

 

Hey Red and all the rest of you, pickup the gauntlets and ride, I’d love to meet and ride with you. This planet of ours is a wonderful place and there’s nothing better then sharing it with a friend!

 

PS Say what you want about the igloo’s… at least our beer is nice and cold!!
