Condor Posted June 6, 2008 Author #26 Posted June 6, 2008 Condor, your readings sound pretty good. You don't always get higher voltage at higher rpm; the v-reg keeps it in some range. But it is unusual I think to get such good charging voltage at idle. I don't have a wiring diagram in front of me, but I've read recently that the dash volt gage is on the blinker circuit. I dunno if the brakes are on the same circuit. So, if there's some problem with the blinkers and perhaps the brakes, that will show up bigger on the volt gage that it is on the whole system. Hope that makes sense. Finally, that ground isn't under the seat. It's below, forward and to the left of the battery. If you remove the battery and box, you can just get to it with and endwrench but it's hard. It's really designed to be accessed with the LH upper fairing off. I did manage to remove the bolt, clean up the ground and reinstall, but it was tough access. You could just add a couple extra ground wires, from the batt to the frame, and from a harness black ground wire or two to the frame. Jeremy I may just run the extra ground wire. I don't do braile very well.... I thought I'd check under the seat sinced it seems the problem rears it's ugly head when I'm in the saddle. When I'm standing next to the bike while it's running perfectly. Like George mentioned there's a 15 wire gang plug that may be damaged under there. I could very well have a positive lead that isn't touching anything until I sit on it??? Then when I hit the brakes or the turn signals it closes the loop and show the big draw?? I put the search off until tommorow. Got sidetracked and rebuilt the front brake today. Don't want to do too much all at once....
GeorgeS Posted June 6, 2008 #27 Posted June 6, 2008 Souonds like you Charging System is in Perfect Health !!!!!! After looking under the Seat, go back to the left handlebar, follow the Cable from the Turn Signal Switch as it Feeds its way thru the Handle Bars, and then Toward the Area behind the Head light assembly. Sounds like as you drive the bike, and move the bars, a cabel is Stressed, and maby worn thru to ground someplace. Sound like an Intermittant Short circuit to me.

Thanks... I'll try wiggling the bars around a bit and see if anything happens while it's running and hooked up to the meter.
