Guest Ken8143 Posted March 14, 2007 #1 Posted March 14, 2007 I just got some shrink wrap tubes to seal off some soldered connections. How the dickens do you get the wrap to shrink? Used a hair dryer on high - ha - didn't do a thing.
Squidley Posted March 14, 2007 #2 Posted March 14, 2007 Use a lighter or a small butane torch...thats how I shrink mine if I dont use my heat gun.
Black Owl Posted March 14, 2007 #3 Posted March 14, 2007 Heat gun, match, lighter, and if they are reeeeeeeeeeally big... a propane torch........
Guest ReinyRooster Posted March 14, 2007 #4 Posted March 14, 2007 I found the goose neck BBQ lighter works well.
Jerry M Posted March 15, 2007 #5 Posted March 15, 2007 I also use the grill lighter, works great just did my trike and did a lot of connections.
Guest blackdog Posted March 15, 2007 #6 Posted March 15, 2007 heat gun works the best for me, I always burn through the tube with a lighter:bang head:
MikesBike Posted March 15, 2007 #7 Posted March 15, 2007 I bought a bunch of that stuff at a fire sale once.
BOO Posted March 15, 2007 #8 Posted March 15, 2007 If you are using the small stuff as I presume you are then I just place the soldering iron close to the shrink tubing and it will shrink right down. Be careful not burn a hole it though. Jerry
Guest Ken8143 Posted March 24, 2007 #9 Posted March 24, 2007 A match works just fine. That stuff shrivels down nice and tight. Much better than using that black electrical tape stuff.
silvercrew Posted March 24, 2007 #10 Posted March 24, 2007 Black tape on wires suck as it will sooner or later start to shrink and leave a sticky mess. If you are making a harness for some wire hockey tape works awesome, it won't shrink and with it and wire loom it looks like factory.
