WIKD Posted June 3, 2008 #1 Posted June 3, 2008 Got my bike back yesterday after being gone 3 days to have warranty work done on the exhaust Y's and the inner fairing replaced due to broken tabs. When I first picked it up the radio would not come on. Turned around and brought it right back and watched them pull the outer fairing and just giggle the wires and it came back on. They said it was a loose connection. I started home and realized I had to turn the radio up louder than usual to hear it so I'm thinking maybe the amp is not connected correctly. Called the dealership and they want me to bring it back and can't tell me which connectors are radio related. Anyone here know so I can just pull it apart myself? Plan on checking all the connections but figured it might be nice to know exactly which ones to pay attention to. Thanks.

Jerry W Posted June 3, 2008 #3 Posted June 3, 2008 I don't really know which connections are dedicated to the radio, but my radio was acting all weird sometime it would not turn on, then it would not turn off, or it would just go on and off by itself, etc. I just split the faring then cleaned and applied dielectric grease to all the connections on the right (brake) side and radio works great now. I knew to do this thanks to posts on this web site.
Freebird Posted June 3, 2008 #4 Posted June 3, 2008 They are all color coded but I don't remember which is which. Actually though, you should unplug them all and plug and unplug them several time to wipe away any oxidation. Then use a bit of dielectric grease on them.
SilvrT Posted June 3, 2008 #5 Posted June 3, 2008 Sometimes I have to crank the volume way up on mine to hear it ..... then I realize I bumped the mute button!
dragerman Posted June 3, 2008 #6 Posted June 3, 2008 Dielectric grease is the only way to go but I would suggest you first spray the connections with “contact cleaner”. You can usually buy it at an electronic store. After you spray the connectors blow them out with compressed air then put the grease. I’m not sure if the contact cleaner will damage the finish on painted surfaces so take care for that.

WIKD Posted June 4, 2008 Author #8 Posted June 4, 2008 Thanks guys. I know it's not the mute button and I already cleaned them and applied dialectric grease about 6 months ago when I wired the MP3 in. I got that from this site too. Guess I'll just pull all of them apart, check them and then reattach.
Freebird Posted June 4, 2008 #9 Posted June 4, 2008 Does it matter what mode it is on? AM/FM/Aux? Does it do it on any mode or do you just see this problem when using an MP3 player or Satellite radio? If it's just MP3 or Satellite, have you checked the audio out level on those units?
WIKD Posted June 4, 2008 Author #10 Posted June 4, 2008 Actually I have only checked it on FM radio. I'm starting to wonder if it's not connected to the original radio not working problem. I'll be pulling the fairing here in just a bit so maybe I'll find something they did. I hate handing the dealership a perfectly good bike and then having to trace problems once I get it back from them.
FutureVentures Posted June 5, 2008 #11 Posted June 5, 2008 Were you able to get it working? I'm having all kinds of radio problems so, I'm interested. Good luck.
