And I know it is not practical for any of us riding in to bring our own bike jacks too, but I thought I would mention it in case someone else is going to drive over and can bring a jack also. If we have a number of folks needing a bike jack for tire or other maintenance, that may be a bottleneck for us! Goose
V7Goose Posted June 2, 2008 Author #28 Posted June 2, 2008 Have you mounted a 6 ply Kendra on these things yet??? They don't jump on there very well do they FrogMan?? Trust me, if you have a machine and tire lube, it is not hard to put any tire on the correct sized rim! The tougher part is often getting the bead to seat when you try to air it up the first time, but I even got tire donuts for that.

I need to get in line for a carb sync. Will anyone be able to tackle fork seals? She has 29k on her, would I need to replace bushings? Let me know what I need to bring. I have a set of used diaphrams Marcarl sent me if anyone needs them, I'll bring them along. Most important, I'm gonna need directions from Rt 2 to Dons place. I cut down my winshield, and it is very easy. would be glad to help with that. Or anything else. I am also interested in colortune and seting carb mixtures. I'm gonna try to show ya'll how to do it, you'll need new valve cover gaskets and probably the cover bolt gaskets too. Mine were hard as heck and I had to cut them off. Most likely, tho, we might not have the right shims to use. I have BuddyRichs kit, and I found that the shims I needed most were in the 265, 270 and 275 range. There's plenty of the other sizes in the kit (probably 2 dozen 280's!) If Don's got one, we'll need a 30mm socket and ratchet to turn the motor over, and a thin 18mm socket to remove the plugs. I'll have the feeler guages and kit. See you there! Dan Note to FozzyN--- see if you can get some Speedbleeders sent to Dons, will help the bleeding process go a lot easier!
Squidley Posted June 3, 2008 #38 Posted June 3, 2008 Folks, Not wanting to rain on anyones parade here, but some of the things that I have been reading are VERY involved projects. I would have to say that some reconsideration might be in order. Fork seals are time consuming and having a clean area to work is a must. The same with adjusting valves, The reason I mention this is I know how these things turn out and the day will fly by so fast and we will all be BSing that we should really think about performing simple maintenance tasks. I'm not saying this to let anyone down, but we have to be practical and Don has been gracious enough to open up his home to us for this, and we dont want to destroy his garage ans urroundings with grease and grime. A good rule of thumb is to keep the repairs you have in mind to a 60 to 90 minute max. There are many members that will come to folks houses and help with larger maintenance needs....just something to keep in mind

Dano Posted June 4, 2008 #50 Posted June 4, 2008 On a more serious note, I had planned on showing how to do a valve adjustment on my bike, as the gaskets are fresh and I know it won't leak after putting her back together. Just a quick run through on how to use the tool and feeler gauges, how to remove and replace a shim and recheck. I knew I didn't want to take all day, as I got cheesecake to eat!!!!!! Thanks for the reminder, though, as I'm sure that we can become consumed by this stuff. Dan
