Hey Everyone,

Took my 2012 Royal Star Venture S to Daytona Bike week this year.  Experienced some white smoke coming from the throttle side pipe and what sounded like a misfire.  Parked the bike, let it sit for a few hours than rode it back to the hotel without issues.  Next day, i was at a red light and it cut off, almost like it didn't have any fuel.  Struggled to start up, pulled the choke, got it running and got it back to the hotel.  The next day I looked at all the fluid levels, check everything I could, and it ran fine all day.  Loaded it up the next day for the trip home, and as I am riding about 80 mph, I lost speed, again like I was running out of fuel.  Don't know if it was smoking again as I was focused on getting off the highway.  Any idea what could be going on??

Just spit balling here:

White smoke typically indicates coolent in the exhaust. Did you notice a sweet smell?

I'd start with a compression test. You may have blown a head gasket.

Check the engine oil for signs of coolent contamination.

Is the fuel pump clicking normally when you turn the ignition on?  Fuel pump points are a fairly common problem with these bikes.  That shouldn't explain the smoke though.

I bought a slightly used 73 Honda CB750 in Feb of 73.  It ran great on the test ride.  After buying it I stopped for gas at a country store and by the time I got it home, it was running ragged.  I replaced the plugs and that helped just a little.  After putting more gas in the tank it ran great.  But in the mean time I thought I had gotten taken on the purchase.  I paid $1150 for it with 800 miles on it.  A new one was $1450 in the winter and $1750 in the summer in Raleigh, NC.  I loved that smooth 4 cylinder bike after learning to ride on a vibrating 71 Honda CB350 twin.
