RoyalShootinstar13 Posted September 21, 2022 #1 Posted September 21, 2022 1998 RS1300 ....., 60 mph loud pop and dead engine no restart starter does not engage. Diagnosis siezed engine. I have 96 RS1300 so do I swap engine or just find exactly what parts are busted and swap them?I've been running her hard because I want to make a beast out this beauty. Ideas please .....vmax conversion is it worth it.What about making the big frame hold fuel?
RDawson Posted September 21, 2022 #2 Posted September 21, 2022 Usually only two ways to kill these things: 1-carbs leaking gas into the cylinders/crankcase. 2-no oil. Buy an engine cheaper than rebuilding one, if it was a carb issue take care of those or you’ll blow another one. 1
RoyalShootinstar13 Posted September 21, 2022 Author #3 Posted September 21, 2022 Yes the cylinder did fill with gas.. what broke then...sounded like left side 3 or 4 cylinder can't exactly remember the carb sequence.

RDawson Posted September 21, 2022 #5 Posted September 21, 2022 Replacement engines are available. Don’t install those carbs on it without rebuilding them, Eykamp offers a rebuild service if needed. Seen old carbs put on a new engine just to blow it too. Float valve leaked fuel and hydro locked it.
luvmy40 Posted September 21, 2022 #6 Posted September 21, 2022 (edited) If you were running at 60 mph when this happened, it could not be a hydrolock issue. That happens when starting the engine. You are certain the engine is siezed? Any chance it's just a blown main fuse? When they go they can make a very loud "POP", and would take out everything electrical. Also a seized engine at 60 MPH would lock up your rear wheel instantly, unless your clutches are in very bad condition. Edited September 21, 2022 by luvmy40

I’ve seen that happen before. Eykamp has some pretty knarly pics of engines that let go at speed.

I hade an exhaust valve disintegrate in a shovel head(bored and stroked) at 80 mph and spray shrapnel on the car in the right lane beside me. That had similar symptoms. Loud bang, complete loss of power instantly.
bpate4home Posted September 22, 2022 #10 Posted September 22, 2022 @Marcarl What ever happened to Bongo Bob's engine? Did it get sold?
RoyalShootinstar13 Posted September 29, 2022 Author #11 Posted September 29, 2022 Okay new engines on there.... It had set for about 2 years the new engine. When I turn it by hand it goes so far then turn it backwards it goes so far and sticks what's causing that. What possibilities. guys I need you all it's my first engine I've done.by myself. just what I've read on here and other places and what feedback I get from you.And where do I unbolt the top half at.

So the reason for the lock up was two tiny bolts.....I wander if that's the reason they sold it so cheap

RoyalShootinstar13 Posted October 3, 2022 Author #17 Posted October 3, 2022 Wouldn't allow the piston to go all the thru it's motions
