I completed a frame-up Kawasaki project earlier this year, a ZG1000 Concours with GPz900 fairings, engine components, ZX11 pistons, porting, kinda went overboard on the speed part and now it's really no suited to long trips but is loads of fun on the commute. See pic. I'm looking at obtaining a early Venture, preferably non-Royale as I don't feel the need for linked braking and such. Have my eye on one, a 1983 with clean bodywork and no rust, but suggestions on others available are welcome. Whatever I get will likely go through the same front to back rebuild and if there's any way to overbore a 1200 to 1300 to get as-new compression and whatever V-Max parts that crossover for more punch please point me in the right direction.

You’re going to find linked brakes on all 1st gens, talk to @skydoc_17about his de-link kit. 83’s and the early 84’s have a second gear issue that’ll have to be checked on. As far as the engine These things are bulletproof as is, maybe check the valve clearance and run it like you stole it. Only way I’ve ever heard of one going down is from carbs leaking and hydro locking the engine, keep carbs clean and you’re good. They love to rev and are a blast to ride. IMSA GTP Fan Posted August 30, 2022 #4 Posted August 30, 2022 Yep, came across the 2nd gear problem while researching but thanks for the heads up and year demarcation. I'm also looking at an '86 but it has left side fairing damage around the turn signal.

Got one I parked in the shop 4 or 5 years ago when I went 2nd Gen. I thought I’d still ride it sometimes but didn’t.

Hurry, deal fell through on the other one the guy and I'm tempted by a '86 Gold Wing. 😉
