So when googling around about desert travel and looking up Rt. 50 I came across a Nevada State sponsored website dedicated to Rt. 50 and sent in for the official guide!  Let the planning begin.03472D89-2358-4DF6-8583-45084704F616.thumb.jpeg.bd549163491d6d4da0e22cb67bba47d0.jpeg

@Pasta Burner,, Point to point, how much of 50 are you planning on riding and are you going to be riding it both directions to and from? The more concise you are the more help I may be able to be. There is a LOT of wonderful things to see out there and I hope this trip is nothing short of SPECTACTULOR for you! Puc

Whichever direction your going, its ~110 miles between Austin & Fallon, with absolutely nothing in between them.  Fill up your gas tank going through either town.  That was the longest stretch I ever encountered without gas.  I made the mistake of not stopping in Austin on my trip last fall.  I was counting down the miles I was going to be walking as I rolled into Fallon on fumes.

Oh, and its a bit north of 50, closer to Elko, but the Ruby Mountains and Lamoille Canyon are spectacular.  My son & I stopped in there during the spring and were blown away.  A real gem and well-kept secret.

When you have good information for the trip you are on it saves time , and will keep you from making a few wrong turns into country side with only one way out .

Unfortunately I am no longer able to tour on the bike @COWBOYBILL, this one is totally on @Pasta Burner.. I am just an innocent bystander offering advice that may assist him on what hopefully will be an AMAZING trip for him. On a side note Bill, you mentioning UFO's made me chuckle.. We have camped MANY times along the Terrestrial Hwy out on Nellis with hopes of just that. Never ever did find/see one though LOL..

@cowpuc all great questions with zero answers haha!  Camping or hotel depends if I’m two up or solo.  I’ve done more than my fair share of sleeping on the ground, however if there is a reason such as an unforgettable night sky then maybe.  As for point to point…where I’m at in SLC there is no reason I can’t do it all but also wouldn’t mind spending a night in Wendover and dropping down or as @circa1968 says hitting Elko, which we’ve done for a casino weekend on a whim instead of stopping in Wendover.  I really don’t have a plan yet, just an idea that I want to get out there so it’s all very immature at the moment.  Also no reason to cram all into one trip.  It’s literally at my back door to hit the desert or the mountains.  Heading up to Park City tomorrow with some friends by way of a seasonal mountain pass, then maybe through Provo canyon.  We’ll see where the time and day takes us.
