SilvrT Posted May 29, 2008 #1 Posted May 29, 2008 Helping to fight prostate cancer... http://www.motorcycleridefordad.org/van/ I'm wondering who from this area is going to this ride? Hope to see ya there!
SilvrT Posted June 1, 2008 Author #2 Posted June 1, 2008 Weather couldn't be better! Appx 1000 bikers showed up. Police escort from the Harley shop all the way out to Port Moody. Rode to Sasquatch park at Harrison Lake...lunch there...then to Cultis Lake (poker run stop)...via the back roads to Fraser downs in Cloverdale for the wrapup celebrations. BBQ burgers, beer, live band, ... this was the first annual Ride for Dad and by all accounts, a huge success! Excluding corporate donations, the bikers alone raised over $100,000. Not sure what the total raised was with corporate donations but I know of at least a $5000 and a $10,000 donation! I didn't see many of our local VR members (from this site) ... some of you were there. Only saw one other 1st gen .... there were by my count 5 2nd gen's. but in amongst 1000 bikes, I "might" have missed one or two LOL. Pics didn't turn out so great...wife's daughter had been using the camera and must have mucked with some of the settings but here some of them are... (The guy kneeling on the ground next to me & Nina was fixing a bad oil leak on his relatively new Harley Ultra ... he'd had it in at the shop the day before for servicing and whoever did it, didn't tighten the drain plug properly. Gotta watch out for crap like that...I'll bet he'll have a few choice words for that shop)
gunboat Posted June 1, 2008 #3 Posted June 1, 2008 glad to hear the ride for dad was a huge sucess. the pictures looked great to me, thanks for sharing. wow if we could only get half of the riders ya'll had to the international rally. best reguards don c.
dr_bar Posted June 1, 2008 #4 Posted June 1, 2008 (edited) I was there, and you're correct, it was a great day for riding the 254km route... I was with a friend on his teal wing. I arrived a Deeley's just after 7:00AM and parked in the first lot. If that's a picture of your bike with the etching on the windshield, I wasn't parked far away from you. There was also a fellow, I believe his name was John, that was riding a RSTD. He belonged to another site and had previously ridden several 1st gen's. He was about 80 years old... $101,300 raised by just the pledges received from the riders, I can't wait to hear the grand total after the corporates are factored in. Best first year turn out and money raised in the 9 years the ride has been taking place at various locations across Canada. Edited June 1, 2008 by dr_bar

Yep, I saw your scoot ... mine is the black 1st gen to the left (in the pic) of the one with the etchings... Nina's standing by it. That black RSMV one is owned by morrell69 (Dave). Too bad we didn't connect ... oh well, another day eh? I'd like to get another meet 'n eat going for later on in June.
