autopilot Posted May 29, 2008 #1 Posted May 29, 2008 Wildhair, saw one of your posts where mention you have a Kawasaki Voyager. It brought to mind something I have been looking for for a neighbor who has one. He is an average height guy, but short legged. We were talking about lowering devices for the Kaw, similar to the links we use on the RSV & RSTD. He said he had checked around and couldn't find anything, but he's not computer savvy and in fact doesn't own one. He has, for all practical purposes, quit riding because he has to tip-toe the bike at a stop and just isn't comfortable with it anymore like it is. I searched around & couldn't find anything either. Do you know of either a part no., a source or template or something that I might pass along to him. He's a good guy and I know he wants to ride more; like when he first got the V'ger. Any help is appreciated and anyone else here that knows something that might be helpful, by all means, chime in. (other than the ever present advice to replace it with a Venture. May be valid, but not real helpful--in context) Thanks
cecdoo Posted May 29, 2008 #2 Posted May 29, 2008 You mite look into having the seat cut down, you could probably lower it 1.5-2in just by removing some of the foam. Also look into boots with a thick sole and heel. Craig
wild hair 39 Posted May 29, 2008 #3 Posted May 29, 2008 i don't know of anyone lowering a voyager,when i get home,iwill look at mine,tosee if i could lower it,the rear socks look pretty standard,mite look for a shorter pair:stirthepot:
autopilot Posted May 29, 2008 Author #4 Posted May 29, 2008 I appreciate it. I told him my results (zero) and told him I'd keep checking around. If you discover something or have an idea that my work, let 'er rip. I'll pass it on to him. And thanks again.
MAINEAC Posted May 30, 2008 #5 Posted May 30, 2008 My Buddy just got 1 in his shop for repair... It's been sitting in a barn on an island and has less than 3000 miles... It's like brand new and has the 6cyl engine... My buddys gott clean the carbs, change battery and fluids.. The owner hasn't ridden it in years but wants to start riding again because of gas prices.
captnmidnight Posted May 30, 2008 #6 Posted May 30, 2008 Could he possibly raise the forks in the triple clamps a bit? Re-do the seat for another half inch or so. Also a good thick sole on his riding boots can give him another inch. If all else fails with his voyager, talk him into something in the cruiser line with a 26,27 inch seat height. The important thing is that he feels confident in what he's ridin.
GigaWhiskey Posted May 30, 2008 #7 Posted May 30, 2008 Looks like he has three options. All three put together will get him flat footed. Seat, shoes and forks. 2in (shoe) + 1.5in to 2in (seat) + .5in (forks) = 4in to 4.5in Not bad in my book and low dollar fixes too!.
Jethroish Posted May 30, 2008 #8 Posted May 30, 2008 My dad has a Voyager. He has a 30 inch inseam and has no problems, but I don't know if he did anything to his. Try the Amer. Voyager Assn website. They may be able to provide you more info.
cliffno350 Posted May 30, 2008 #9 Posted May 30, 2008 Might be able to lower rear shocks with kit that moves shock mount back good for a couple inches....???
