Miamick Posted February 20, 2022 #1 Posted February 20, 2022 Recently made a great deal on this Venture Midnight. Brought it home and had a welcome home party; oil/filter, plugs and fuel filter. Runs outrageously strong and smooth. Based on my Honda experience I’m pretty sure the choke isn’t engaging as cold starting the 1st time drained my battery but I think I got the hang of it now. Is that usually a pinched cable that is accessible? Going to keep my 1100 Shadow Sabre for now but I think see is going to sit for now. Thinking of rolling down to Daytona for a day or 2. Freebird Posted February 21, 2022 #2 Posted February 21, 2022 Don't think there is a pinched cable that could cause it. Has it been sitting for any amount of time? I would try adding a bottle of Sea Foam to a tank of gas first and see it that helps.
Marcarl Posted February 21, 2022 #3 Posted February 21, 2022 The 'chock' cable is not really a choke, it's a fuel enricher and so I go with @Freebird that it may be some dirt in the enricher circuit. 1
Miamick Posted February 21, 2022 Author #4 Posted February 21, 2022 Not sure I explained myself properly; when starting bike cold and I pull out the choke, is it supposed to stay out or automatically go back in? Mine will not stay pulled out.

PastorCurt Posted February 22, 2022 #6 Posted February 22, 2022 Mine doesn’t stay out either, but it will stay running even with the choke not out all the way. After it warms up a bit make sure the “choke” is pushed in all the way. Mine will stay out just a bit.

I suspect the carbs are a little dirty and I also recommend seafoam or a fuel injector cleaner added to the gasoline. I use Gumout for high mileage engines with PEA mostly but also like seafoam. It keeps the carbs clean on my motorcycles and yard tools. 1
Blackcherry 06 Posted February 25, 2022 #9 Posted February 25, 2022 Mine would not stay out when I got it back at the end of summer. One of the guys told me do tighten the nut and it would fix it. There is a washer that the side is folded down that will keep it from turning. I folded that back up and tightened it and then folded it back down and it worked great after that and still does.
