RIP Rocky Posted January 30, 2022 #1 Posted January 30, 2022 So I have I believe an 87 venture royal that was passed to me by my father that has since passed away. The bike was totaled in an accident when I was towing it. I am currently financially able to restore it back to its beauty. I have found a 92 venture that is complete and running for $2500. Before I pull the trigger and purchase the 92, I need to know whether or not parts will be compatible with my 87 to switch everything over to mine.
saddlebum Posted January 30, 2022 #2 Posted January 30, 2022 I believe at least 95% of the parts are the same.

cimmer Posted January 31, 2022 #4 Posted January 31, 2022 The ignition system is not compatible as the 92 has a digital and the 87 is analog, this change was started with the 90 VR. The mechanical parts are interchangeable but the A-arm is a different design. Yamaha made a change in the rear suspension between the 87 and 88 model years that carried thru till the end of the 1st gen production. I also believe the 92 has a 4-brush starter where the 87 has the 2-brush starter. The 4-brush being a better starter. Why not just ride the 92 and use what you can for parts that are needed for the 92? Just curious is all. Good luck... Rick F.
RIP Rocky Posted January 31, 2022 Author #5 Posted January 31, 2022 Mine was my dad's bike that he passed down to me before he passed and was his legacy to me. I want to use the motor and frame from my bike and keep as much original as I can.
