Bruce Bakken Posted November 4, 2021 #1 Posted November 4, 2021 So just got this 83 venture royale 1200 and it sat for at least 10 yrs I got it running but this wire on the left side by gas tank was glowing and smoken I’m not sure what it’s for yet and do I have to ha e it plugged in. What would make it hot
cimmer Posted November 4, 2021 #2 Posted November 4, 2021 that is the wire from the stator to the voltage regulator. Possible there was some corrosion on the connectors that increased the resistance and that caused the current to get too night and melt the wire. Most likely you will need to replace the wire and connectors. Rick F.
Pasta Burner Posted November 4, 2021 #3 Posted November 4, 2021 Rick is spot on, that is the the connector between the stator and regulator rectifier. I had the same issue you are describing last year. IMHO the connector just isn’t designed well enough to handle the current, as well it’s in an especially vulnerable spot to accumulate corrosion. I cut the connector off and soldered the wires together. Haven’t had an issue since, connection barely gets warm now. Remember to put your shrink sleeving on first . I’m pretty positive I did a lap & wrap joint.
