Whining noise

So new to the group just got this 83 Yamaha venture royal 1200 and it sat for 10+ years got it running and it makes this weird noise when I kick it to 2nd and on haven’t gotten it going much more then that conserned something odd and bad was happening. What is this noise and how do I make it stop. Thanks

You might wanna move this to the first Gen forum.  I’m not Familiar with the Mk1 but I do know there was an issue with second gear doing something odd and or not working.

The whining on my bike usually originates in the area of the back seat.

Don't get that but have had repeated thumping sensation coming from the back. Sometimes I feel it in my back and other times in my helmet. I assume it is suspension related since it only occurs while riding two up .

I'm surprised you didn't mention that it's more or less the same feeling you get while sitting in your easy chair.

It would be best if you can post a video with the noise. I haven't heard of the second gear issue causing a whine. Try kicking it into third to see what happens.
