ReinyRooster Posted August 26, 2021 #1 Posted August 26, 2021 Made a sweet deal today...traded in the Wing on a 2009 RSV with 30k on it. Has a Mustang seat. Now I need to find a backrest for the seat. Should be ready by Monday. 9
BlueSky Posted August 26, 2021 #3 Posted August 26, 2021 (edited) Hey, that's my favorite color for a Gen 2!! Edited August 26, 2021 by BlueSky
Marcarl Posted August 26, 2021 #4 Posted August 26, 2021 Don't go riding with Don @XV1100SE, you wont know whose bike is who's.
saddlebum Posted August 27, 2021 #5 Posted August 27, 2021 Not a 1st gen but still a nice looking ride. Congrats, hope you have a million miles of joy from it.
PastorCurt Posted August 27, 2021 #7 Posted August 27, 2021 Great looking bike. I recommend the Utopia backrest.

dogman Posted August 27, 2021 #9 Posted August 27, 2021 Congratulations! The bike looks beautiful. I hope you get as many fun filled miles as you want with it. Enjoy!
saddlebum Posted August 27, 2021 #10 Posted August 27, 2021 Looking forward to when we can all join together for those fun filled miles
sleepy2 Posted August 27, 2021 #11 Posted August 27, 2021 Also looking forward to getting together again also!!
videoarizona Posted August 30, 2021 #13 Posted August 30, 2021 (edited) Congrats! I just happen to have a Utopia back rest. With studs. All your have to do is ask and then pay shipping! I do request you " pay it forward" someday when you can help someone else. Bongo Bob sent it to me and I never installed it.... Let me know... David Edited August 30, 2021 by videoarizona Add 1
videoarizona Posted August 30, 2021 #14 Posted August 30, 2021 (edited) Forgot to mention, when you take the tank off someday... Look to see if you have the ignition bypass installed. It takes the heavy duty power that Yamaha put through the switch and routes it separately... Saving the switch from overloading. Available from member @djh3 on this site as well. ReinyRooster Posted August 30, 2021 Author #15 Posted August 30, 2021 Thanks, I did make arrangements with the dealer to have them install a different backrest that mounts on a frame so I might want to change it out. What would be needed to mount the Utopia, and how much you want for it?
videoarizona Posted August 30, 2021 #16 Posted August 30, 2021 Mounting? Don't know. Looks like nothing more than mounting in the pillion seat bolts. Maybe longer bolts. You would have to look that up. As far as price... Nothing. Just pay shipping. That's what the pay it forward is about. You help someone else in the future...
videoarizona Posted August 30, 2021 #17 Posted August 30, 2021 I bet someone on this site knows about mounting a Utopia seat.
luvmy40 Posted August 31, 2021 #18 Posted August 31, 2021 It looks like it mounts exactly like the Grasshopper back rest. Take the drivers seat off, remove the pillion seat mounting bolts and bolt the back rest over the pillion bracket. I needed longer bolts when I did my Grasshopper, the factory bolts were just a bit too short. Your's being an after market seat, may already have longer bolts. 50/50 chance.
PastorCurt Posted August 31, 2021 #19 Posted August 31, 2021 Exactly as described! The correct bolts came with mine and there are 2 holes there already! Easy-peasy😃
videoarizona Posted August 31, 2021 #20 Posted August 31, 2021 (edited) I didn't get the longer bolts when I received the back rest. But those are easily obtained at a hardware store. Most stores now carry a variety of metric bolts. But like my Grasshopper backrest, easy install. Edited August 31, 2021 by videoarizona
saddlebum Posted August 31, 2021 #21 Posted August 31, 2021 @ReinyRoosterIf you get together all the items you want done including the carb sync and electrical work you mentioned in another thread, and don't mind taking a ride to Burlington, I can help you out with all of these things if you want. just let me know. If you wish to chat my number is in my profile.
ReinyRooster Posted August 31, 2021 Author #22 Posted August 31, 2021 Thanks......leaving for vacation Friday for a week and a half, so we will chat after that.
Heimdog Posted September 9, 2021 #23 Posted September 9, 2021 Very nice, congrats! A good friend has two bikes so offered to let me ride his 2012 RSV while mine is in the shop. The very first thing I missed was the backrest. I didn't realize I relied on it so much until I rode one without.
