Yeah, that's an important one.  3 months after picking up my used '06 the shifter came off while riding.  Let's just say it wasn't terribly dangerous for me when it happened but that initial Oh $#@! moment, well now I can laugh at it.

Today (Saturday) a day in the paint booth. All Tupperware got 2 layers of filler:

I really like the look of the first picture, those swirly marks are an awesome design. Oh well, guess it's not my scooter. Next pictures look more traditional, nice work.

It's a great effect in the first picture. You just need sandpaper (600) and some water....... Sometimes we're all artists.

Today a 'wet' day. After spraying the grey filler on the metal parts also, we sanded everything with 400/600 sandpaper. The parts are like new. Next week we're in de paint booth again spraying the base-coat on all the parts. The shiny parts are still wet from sanding.

Might I suggest a quick wet sanding with 2000 paper before final coat? Seems to give a deeper shine I think.

To be honest, I think 2000 is too fine. You can use 2000 to sand the definitive paint and then polish it.

Those pictures bring back memory's of rebuilding my bike in 2007 after it was written off when I was run off the road. I went through all the same steps. The sanding part was the worst. Just when you think your done sanding you spot a piece that looks better than the rest and you realize your not done sanding just yet. Grab more paper more water and another case of beer (YEH.. BEER ....BEER is very important when sanding ) and saddle I mean settle right back into sanding. But once it is done you and the final paint job looks great. You feel real good about what you did which by the way calls for another case of beer to celebrate a job well done.

😀 We hope every part get's a home. We have more than 600 (detailed) photos, 50Gb of video and about 40 exploded views on A3. But, still it will be a puzzle.

Well, let's be honest. Not everything is going smoothly........... Today in the paint booth we encountered some bad 'crackle' problems with the paint on a fender. Sanding, two thin coats of primer, three thin coats of paint (and 3,5 hours) later the fender was ready for the clear coat.

Overall, it was a long and productive day with great results.

 

Clear coat finishes it all!

Yesterday we worked on the finishing touches about the spray paint. This time we tested some 'racing stripes' or 'striping' (hope this is the correct English). Today and tomorrow we will finish all the Tupperware with 2 layers of clear coat.

Striping is the word, stripping is not something that is suggested you do. So far it looks good enough for me to ride. Carry on!
