"Howling Sound", 1991 Venture Royale

My 1991 Venture Royale makes a "howling" sound under light load. It goes away on deceleration and stronger acceleration. Does it in all gears. Sounds almost like the sound straight cut gears make. Steady sound, not warbling or oscillating. Any suggestions where to start looking? Roughly 50K miles. My other Ventures do not do this.

The gears in the Venture are strait cut gears. The bike has a very distinctive sound while it's running. I would wager that you're hearing normal sounds.

I have that sound at 3000 rpm. No matter what gear I am in.

That sounds like the Gen 2 gear whine everybody seems to think is caused by the clutch basket gear.  My Gen 1 transmission (only 6k miles) is fairly quiet unlike my Gen 2.  The Gen 2 has a loud whine/chirp at a certain rpm and almost all Gen 2s have that annoying whine/chirp.

Wait are yiu suggesting its a weight issue or a fear factor issue? Cause one of those if mentioned could be deadly

I keep telling everybody to install intercom mic/speakers in both rider and passenger helmets. The gear whine will no longer be the most irritating sounds you hear.
