Hi Folks

I am new to the forum.  My much loved Venture suffered a major engine fail last weekend.  Looks like a conrod broke and has resulted in a punched hole through the front oil pan.  I am looking to get a replacement motor from the USA.  I note from previous posts there may be some compatibility issues with certain models Vs the Venture.  I looked at one from Pinwall which on the listing stated was compatible yet when I checked just before pushing the go button was advised it didn't.

I have been advised the following motor is an "exact fit" - https://www.ebay.com/itm/1999-YAMAHA-VENTURE-ROYALE-STAR-XVZ13AH-COMPLETE-ENGINE-GOOD-COMPRESSION/402318056095

I am also advised this one is as well - https://www.ebay.com/itm/2004-2013-Yamaha-Royal-Star-Venture-XVZ1300-1300-ENGINE-MOTOR-TRANSMISSION/133729294441

I was advised this one was NOT compatible - https://www.ebay.com/itm/1996-2001-Yamaha-Royal-Star-XVZ1300-Classic-Tour-Boulevard-ENGINE-MOTOR-TRANNY/133660672132    When I looked at the listing is said it WAS compatibile with my 1999 XVZ13TF......glad I triple checked!

Is there a way I can determine compatibility for myself?   For example the second motor I am told is suitable is the black version from the later model.

Any assistance would be appreciated

The only one that is compatible with the Venture is the middle one https://www.ebay.com/itm/2004-2013-Yamaha-Royal-Star-Venture-XVZ1300-1300-ENGINE-MOTOR-TRANSMISSION/133729294441,  It would be easier to tell if they had left the fins and front struts on. The early Royal Star motors (1996 to 2001) did not have the struts on the front cyclinders securing the motor to the frame. See the snip I put in below.  Also the early Royal Stars had 28mm carbs the Venture (1999 to 2013) and Tour DeLuxe (2005 to 2010) had 32 mm carbs so the motors are not compatible between Royal Star and Venture/Tour DeLuxe.  Not to make more complicated Yamaha also called some of the earlier modes Tour Deluxe.

The black engines are from Later model Ventures and Tour Deluxes, none of the early model standard Royal Stars had black motors to my knowledge.

Hope that helps, maybe someone can give exact engine model number for Ventures or Tour DeLuxes
