searching for neutral

I just bought the bike last night and seem to have a problem finding neutral, I'm droping down from second but seem to hit air and have to mess around to get it in to to neutral. Is this just one of those weird qwerks every bike has? 2009 royal star

How long since the oil was changed? Notchy shifting and trouble finding neutral are an indicator it’s due.

also if the clutch slave has air in it the clutch may not be releasing enough and neutral is always the hardest one to get into when this happens.

I have a 96 xvz13. I noticed it was very sensitive to get it into neutral. Fresh oil, new clutch and slave seals. bled out twice. This was the first time I ran the bike. But I would think its just very touchy to find neutral.
