DesertLawman Posted January 27, 2021 #1 Posted January 27, 2021 (edited) Has anyone ever towed a motorcycle with this kind of tow hitch? I have a 2018 Star Venture TC and wanted to know if this will work and/or damage the bike. Edited January 27, 2021 by DesertLawman
sldunker Posted January 27, 2021 #2 Posted January 27, 2021 What is the weight capacity of this contraption?
RDawson Posted January 27, 2021 #3 Posted January 27, 2021 I don’t have a 3rd Gen but 1st &2nd gen both say to not tow with wheel on the ground. The transmission isn’t lubricated correctly without the engine running. The forces of acceleration and hard braking are also transmitted up the forks and neck, not something that excites me.

Flyinfool Posted January 28, 2021 #5 Posted January 28, 2021 I always hate running anything right at its design capacity. That bike is pretty close to 1000 lbs. As mentioned the transmission uses engine oil under pressure for lubrication, With the engine not running there is no oil flow to those parts.

If I leave the transmission in neutral, wont that be fine since it is not a shaft drive?

Motorcycle Mike Posted January 28, 2021 #8 Posted January 28, 2021 I don't know what this contraption cost, but I bet you can get a trailer for near the same cost. A trailer would be a safer choice with many more uses. 1

I wonder how that would wear the rear tire if towed any distance. Even w/o torque applied I wonder if it would feather and wear it prematurely before you get it to the destination. A single place motorcycle trailer is light and usually cost effective, the HD guys have sure time/mileage tested them over and over again 😆 I see them on CL now and again reasonably priced.
saddlebum Posted April 10, 2021 #11 Posted April 10, 2021 There are far better means of towing the bike than that. Even a utility trailer with a front wheel chock would be a far better choice.
