New helmet review - if you are an off-road or adventure type

Hello all,

I just did a ride review on a Klim F3 off-road helmet that is Dot approved for on-road and it was fine at freeway speeds.

I know that our friend @cowpuc doesn't need no stinkin helmet and has kept himself and his lovely wife Tip safe for a million miles. But for the rest of us, wear a stinkin helmet!

Here is my review of this quality helmet. You will notice in the photo I am on a BMW 1200 GS and wearing a whole bunch more Klim Gear. The bike is a Twisted Road rental ( review to follow) and the Klim Jacket and pants will get their own review shortly.

@VentureFar Another good review with good information. Have you written any reviews on the modulars. I'd be interested in your input as I am starting to look that route. I really like the style that folds all the way to the back as my impression would be less wind pull that way.

Do you mean the modular piece goes over the top of the helmet to the back so that you are riding with a 3/4? I don't' ever ride with my face exposed to asphalt except when taking a drink of water or a bite of a sandwich.

 

These are my three modular reviews. Remember each review is stand alone and not a comparison. But between us girls I prefer the HJC Rpha 90 for comfort, air flow and how quite it is. just don't buy a matte finish, they are hard to keep clean.

fyi all are intermediate oval and you should definitely try them on before buying. I only use modular when riding my Venture.

I've ridden with a 1/2 helmet the last 8 - 9 years. I tried the Scorpion 3 in 1 helmet and just could not get pas the fit and how everything came together. Started looking at the modular helmets in the dealership I was at and was not impressed with their selection. I like the idea of the convertibles and given that I'm in Houston riding year round the face covering would be good for a couple of months at best. Outside of that - air, I need air. I've tried a buddy's full face and just didn't seem to get enough airflow over the noggin. I'll have to find a place around here that has a good selection of stock that I can try on. I did try on a Bell which fit really well but it was a full faced unit and I am suspect of the air flow.

No duck bill for me, but I think my Shoei Neotec II is by far the best helmet I've ever owned. Comfy, quiet, super versatile, and high quality in every detail. It was hard to cough up nearly a thousand bones (Canadian) after tax, but the sting went away after about 2 kilometres.

I have had it almost a year now and am quite happy with it. The full visor won't protect as well as a full face helmet but will be better than a 3/4 with no visor. If you are riding fast enough for the visor in the up position to bother you then airflow with it down is not a problem. I will lift it one notch as I slow down and open it all the way when I stop if I think I will be sitting awhile (like at a light). I am very fond of the internal sun visor. The speakers for the Yamaha intercom headset were a bit of a tight fit, but I made it work.

Yup. That’s the one I got for my wife. I reviewed it. Good helmet but I prefer modular personally.

Ok, let me explain the careful thought process that I used when selecting that helmet. It was the only one the motorcycle dealer had in stock that I liked when I bought the bike. It had been over 10 years since I sold my previous bike so I did not have one and needed one immediately in order to ride the bike home. Fortunately, I like it.

Have you checked out Arai XD-4 Helmet or 1Storm BMX helmet? These two gears are great for adventure and for racing tracks! Or you can go for Bell Servo?
