friesman Posted May 24, 2008 #1 Posted May 24, 2008 Does any one have a suggestion for the best wheel chock for the price that will make it easy for one person to tie a bike down. I think I need something that clamps on to the wheel and installs fairly easily into the trailer, it doesnt matter if it folds down flat ot not, as the trailer is going to be used only for storage and transport of my 1st gen. Thanks in advance for the advice everyone Brian:cool10:
Eck Posted May 24, 2008 #2 Posted May 24, 2008 When I had my enclosedc trailer, I installed two pieces of 4x4 post.. What you ask.... Take a 4x4 post and cut two pieces about 20 inches long. Tie your bike on the trailer where you want it to be located. Place one piece of 4x4 on each side of the front tire. Mark floor where the two 4x4s are located. remove them and drill two mounting holes thru each of the 4x4s Place them back in thier mounting position / location and use those holes to drill thru the trailer floor. Insert (4) 6 inch long bolts with flat washers on the bottom and on the top with nuts and your in buisness and for the price of nothing if you are lucky and can find an old 4 x 4 laying around... Hey, you said "CHEAP"...
Freebird Posted May 24, 2008 #3 Posted May 24, 2008 There are several on the market. I have one on my trailer that is basically the same as these but home made by the guy I bought the trailer from. Works well and a lot cheaper to make than to buy. http://www.wheeldock.com/?gclid=COP-ivmKv5MCFQIaFQodZhguDA http://www.wikco.com/wheelpro.html
Billet Posted May 24, 2008 #4 Posted May 24, 2008 Haven't tried one but they look good. http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=96349
James Ardrey Posted May 25, 2008 #5 Posted May 25, 2008 I own a wheeldock and they work very well using a gas cylinder to clamp the front tire in place. They can also be used where you store your bike holding it in vertical position making it easy to check oil level and perform other maintenance tasks also. Very simple but very well engineered. They aren't cheap but well worth the money in my opinion.
Cinderella Posted May 25, 2008 #6 Posted May 25, 2008 Dale got a chuck today to install on our trailer........we were just looking at it and ran the front tire up into it to check fit.....now our question is this? when the wheel is secured in should it be lifted up a little and not touching the plate or should it rest on the plate? We can adjust it and need to know the proper placement. thanks for your help !
Rick Butler Posted May 26, 2008 #7 Posted May 26, 2008 Brian, For the money, the one from Harbor Freight is a good buy and I have personally used one. They allow you to ride up into the chock where the front tire is held so you can get off the bike and install the tie downs without anyone holding the bike. I know they will take a 120 width tire but not a 150. A 130, maybe. http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=96349 Rick
Freebird Posted May 26, 2008 #8 Posted May 26, 2008 Cindy, My tire sits on the trailer, not on the rails. I personally think that is the way it should be.
