star4772 Posted May 24, 2008 #1 Posted May 24, 2008 I noticed today that my rear cyclinder on the right side on the exhause pipe looks a little black and blue. Does anyone know what might cause this,to rich carbs out of sync? Maybe we can take care of it at maintance day at Freebirds? Also I would like to install frt and rear brake pads yes??? Thanks Joe
BuddyRich Posted May 24, 2008 #2 Posted May 24, 2008 Rear Cylinder ? Are you talking about the painted fins or the chrome cylinder head cover ? Black around an exhaust would indicate a leak to me.
Freebird Posted May 24, 2008 #3 Posted May 24, 2008 Installing the brake pads at Maintenance Day shouldn't be a problem.

This is what I mean maybe running to rich. Joe

If not, we can fix it with a little JB Weld. We did that for Don's bike in Fort Collins last year. The stuff you see on the chrome heat shield is not actually bluing from heat - the heat shields can never get that hot. You are seeing exhaust gas deposits from the leak, and they generally just wipe off. Goose

Joe Hey Joe, BEFORE you wipe it off, I'd suggest you just take it ASAP to a dealer and ask them to fix it under warranty - their computer will tell them if it is still in the 5 year period, but even if it is past, Yamaha has fixed stuff after warranty before. Especially something like this that is a known problem and so easy to see that the crimp is bad and had to be from the very beginning. Can't hurt to try. Goose
