Noon Day Posted September 7, 2020 #1 Posted September 7, 2020 I will need to replace or remove my rear trunk on my 2000 mm because of extensive cracks to the bottom of the trunk. Anyone have a trunk that would work or a suggestion on permanently removing the trunk?
rbig1 Posted September 7, 2020 #2 Posted September 7, 2020 you left faster than I can type. guys have any pics of trunks you have retro fit on a gen2
XV1100SE Posted September 7, 2020 #3 Posted September 7, 2020 Wasn't there a recall on the early 2nd Gen Ventures? They added more support under the bottom. Not sure if it would help 20 years later but you could ask a Yamaha dealer to check if yours was part of the recall and if it had been "fixed".
slowrollwv Posted September 7, 2020 #4 Posted September 7, 2020 All the trunks are the same from 99-13. They added four pieces of metal to the bottom for support. There is always a few trunks on Ebay if you want to replace yours.
Freebird Posted September 7, 2020 #5 Posted September 7, 2020 I think only the '99 models were missing the additional supprort and large washers. They didn't actually recall them but came out with a free support kit. Nothing was sent out to owners but members of the forums and etc. became aware of the fix.
JDaniel Posted September 7, 2020 #6 Posted September 7, 2020 I had a body shop repair the cracks in the base of my trunk on the 99 RSV. I then cut a piece of 1/4 inch plexiglass to match the base of the trunk and mounted it to it. No problems after that.
Phrog Posted September 8, 2020 #7 Posted September 8, 2020 Ebay. And if you're lucky, you'll find one the same color!
