First Gen Front Tire Removal

I need to put some new rubber and brake pads on the front of my 84.

Is there anything that might surprise me with this procedure or is it relatively simple?

I will be removing front wheel, having dealer put new tire on wheel, and I think I might as well put new brake pads on while I'm at it. (does EBC $32.95 a set sound reasonable?)

 

Any thoughts or suggestions are greatly appreciated...

speedo hub might fall out, which if you dont know about it will surprise you. Better to take it out than have it fall out somewhere along the drive when taken the tire in.

 

Carefull not to touch the brakes when the caliper is off...maybe put some cardboard in between the pads. Just makes it easier to get back on later...they dont close.

What rick said. Just keep track of things. Not a major job and saves youi a lot of bucks.

not a bad time to consider replacing the bearings and seals as well...

Pull out the Inner Speedo Cable, and Greese it .

 

If the Brake pads are half worn, replace them as long as they are off.

 

Also, good time to Replace the Fork Fluid, Drain it while the Calipers are off and pulled back. You wont get any oil onto the Brake pads that way.

 

And while your hands are all dirty, and oily, good time to Replace the brake fluid, be sure to do a good job of rebleeding the brakes.

Also a great time to roll that axle across a flat surface... mine had a small "wobble"... how many check that?

Just got done replacing my front tire along with installing new bearings and seals. Walk in the park as long as your axle hasn't rusted solid onto the center spacer. Had to beat the crap out of my rear axle to get it out but the front one came out relatively painlessly...
