kenblount Posted August 24, 2020 #1 Posted August 24, 2020 Taking granddaughter on a ride and motorcycle acted as if i was running out of gas , was close to gas station put only a gallon in. What do it need to check?
RDawson Posted August 24, 2020 #2 Posted August 24, 2020 Is the pump clicking when you turn the key? Fuel filter clear?
SpencerPJ Posted August 24, 2020 #3 Posted August 24, 2020 Sounds like the filter to me. O'Reilly sells a nice one that is clear glass. I also had a bad gas line, got pinched and starved the process. I replaced with a flexible one, made my problem worse, it would collapse under hard acceleration. I finally found the right combo and 'knock on wood', been good for a few years.
XV1100SE Posted August 24, 2020 #4 Posted August 24, 2020 Fuel filter or pump. If you don't hear clicking when you turn the key on it is the pump. If it clicks when you start the bike but while riding under load it is "starving" for fuel or the engine cuts out then it could still be your fuel pump. For pump - one "fix" is to replace the points. Other is to replace. For filter, there is a write-up in the read only section. It is in an awkward location.
BlueSky Posted August 24, 2020 #5 Posted August 24, 2020 Would you tell us a little more about exactly what it's doing? Does it idle ok? Does it cut out when throttle is applied? I would put a bottle of seafoam or gumout with PEA in the gas to begin with. If it's cutting out when revving, a carb diaphragm might be ruptured? Fuel pump points failing seems to be a Gen 2 issue. Just wagging here. Fuel tank vent?
XV1100SE Posted August 24, 2020 #6 Posted August 24, 2020 Just noticed you put this in the 1st Gen section. What year is your bike?
Patch Posted August 26, 2020 #7 Posted August 26, 2020 The model matters as does the year and mods. Try checking the air vents.
kenblount Posted August 27, 2020 Author #8 Posted August 27, 2020 Just noticed you put this in the 1st Gen section. What year is your bike? 1983 yamaha venture royale update I put in a new petcock now have a small leak at the petcock where the unit meets the tank.
