ragtop69gs Posted July 16, 2020 #1 Posted July 16, 2020 I'm installing a new rear valve cover gasket, have the old gasket out and the sealing surfaces cleaned up. Last time I did this I used RTV silicone to seal the halfmoon area on each end of the head and after several years it was leaking again. Idon't have any RTV on Hand, but I do have a tube of Yamabond 4 semi drying liquid gasket, will the yamabond 4 work with the new rubber gasket?
grubsie Posted July 17, 2020 #2 Posted July 17, 2020 Yamabond will absolutely work. Far better than RTV. That's what I used on mine.
luvmy40 Posted July 17, 2020 #3 Posted July 17, 2020 That Yamabond 5 does not look like the Yamabond that I have used in the past. The Yamabond that I have is basically black RTV. The Yamabond 5 looks like a grey putty. Not saying it won't work, just that it's not what I've seen before.
saddlebum Posted July 17, 2020 #4 Posted July 17, 2020 (edited) Look for a product made by Permatex called THE RIGHT STUFF it is the best engine sealant I have ever used far better than silicone. Any parts place should carry it. I have used it many times even replaced entire gaskets with it.
