I just took the 86 for its maiden run for 08. I had ordered new diaphragms when Cliffno350 offered to group buy them.I installed them and since I was tearing into it anyway I lubed the throttle cables too. What a difference! It took my 86 from a cumbersome, wheel shimmying before stopping, boat handling bike to a smooth, peppy, quick handling fun to ride machine! No kidding, I used to have to take up most of 2 lanes in order to do a u-turn. Now it handles that job with room to spare. It seems to have taken the shimmy before stopping away. YAHOO! Either that or I just didn't feel it as bad what with the smile on my face. All this on last years gas. So far the best improvement on this Yamaha bar none.:thumbsup2::D

:confused24::confused24: I'm confused. Just how did installing carburetor diaphragms and lubing the cables make it steer better?

Probably, better throttle response = tighter turning.......... That is my guess.

...or he just hasn't gotten into the summer moonshine yet.

If he had to keep the RPM's up to keep from stalling at idle, that would make for difficult turning...

Errrrr, not that I would know anything about that!

Good point Rocket, but I'm pretty sure Swifty may have the real answer to my question.

I wish! Throttle response is so much more crisp. This behemoth feels nimble now. BUUT that summer moonshine crack sure sounds good though! In fact the brother-in laws {outlaws} and I were just talking about setting up a still today.:detective: LOL. We figure it couldn't hurt. Anything we don't consume we could always nip up the vehicles to stretch out the MPG.:thumbsup2:

Give it a taste of Sea-Foam now. A little nip is good for it. Sync carbs a nd Color- Tune you will think someone switched bikes on you!! Might think about plug wires!! You never get done...

Poor Handling ???

Have your Fork Springs, ever been replaced ??

" Bad Handling " you may need to greese steering bearings, and replace the fork springs, and oil if you have not done so as yet.

I also found that my swing arm shock link bushings were shot, letting the bolts move all over the place. Kinda pricey, but she's worth it. After all, I've replaced everything else that could be bad or worn out, can't stop here!

I think that's on bio-fuel we could all agree on, but just for medicinal purposes of course...(my other half may see this post!!)
