A question for Military person's who are also, have been LEO's..

This question came up in a recent discussion I had with some close friends who both served in America's military.. Having both served and taken "The Oath",, they thought America's LEO "Oath" is different than that of U.S. Military personnel.. I have never served at either position of honor but I had always thought the oath's were identical.. Has anyone here served in both and did you find the swear-in's to be identical in both nature and word or do they differ?? Any differences you could share with the public?

Never been a civilian LEO but I'll bet you'll find it interesting that when I started working for the US Postal Service, I took the same oath that I had taken many times before with the Army and again later with the Airforce.

 

I would imagine that most police departments would have an oath similar if not identical to the military oath.

Having sereved in the USMC I took an oath to protect the United States from foreign and domestic threats local LEO'S have to abide bye local Gov mandates and that is so different.

I think it’s different by state. I remember one part was I swore to have never fought in a duel. That’s the only part I remember after nearly 30 years, that was as a deputy jailer. It didn’t take me long to figure out law enforcement wasn’t for me, way too high tempered to be cussed or spit at.
