suds Posted April 23, 2020 #1 Posted April 23, 2020 I've searched the site and can't find any thread that talks about this. Is there a trick to getting the rear valve cover out? I'm replacing the gaskets as they were cracked and leaking. I can't seem to find a way to get the cover the clear everything and come out. I don't have the carbs off but from what I've read, it seems to me that people have removed it with the carbs installed. Sent from my SM-G955W using Tapatalk
luvmy40 Posted April 23, 2020 #2 Posted April 23, 2020 You do have the air box and intake sleeves off, right? Personally, I've always pulled the carbs to get at the valves.
suds Posted April 23, 2020 Author #3 Posted April 23, 2020 I literally just got the rear cover off 5 minutes ago. It's a very tight spot but if you handle it from both sides gently, it comes out. Getting back in is going to be tricky. No, I don't have the carbs off. I've read here that it can be done without taking them off. Fingers crossed, I'll get the cover back in and the gasket seated. BlueSky Posted April 23, 2020 #4 Posted April 23, 2020 It's probably covered in one of these videos. I don't know which one without searching. But there are 12 parts.
suds Posted April 23, 2020 Author #5 Posted April 23, 2020 Yeah I didn't see them do it while the engine was in the bike, but I may have missed it. I managed to get it out and back in. Sent from my SM-G955W using Tapatalk
gaj1917 Posted April 26, 2020 #6 Posted April 26, 2020 Yes, getting the covers back in, with new gaskets attached is tricky. Two sets of hands helps. And, stick the gaskets on the cover grooves with a sticky gasket sealer before installing. Once the covers are in place, check and double check that the gaskets have seated properly.
