Brian D. Posted May 17, 2008 #1 Posted May 17, 2008 Hey all, have had my midnight venture over three weeks and i have a hard time getting rear trunk to shut and latch without putting serious weight into it and even then it takes a couple of times of pushing down to get it latched. took off black plastic latch cover inside trunk and everything seem tight and lined up. wondering if anyone else had this problem and ideas to correct it. oh when i get it latched it does lock as it should and opens fine. thanks Brian D.
Freebird Posted May 17, 2008 #2 Posted May 17, 2008 Remove the black cover again and coat the metal parts with white lithium grease. That should do it. Pretty common problem. Also good idea on the saddle bag latches.
Guest clearjohn Posted May 18, 2008 #3 Posted May 18, 2008 I just got a 07 Midnight, had same issue with the left side latch, I loosened both top and bottom latches and pulled up on the bottom and down on the top piece as I tightened them down and it made a difference. It only requires a firm pressure on the Yamaha tag to get the lid to latch. There doesn't seem to be much play in the parts but it was just enough to make the difference. Good luck finding a solution. John
