Slingshot Posted March 16, 2020 #1 Posted March 16, 2020 Hi folks. I just picked up a beautiful 06 midnight venture. I'm coming off a FJR1300 that was heaven except that it wasnt ideal for the 2up riding we do. My new gal happens to love riding with me all the time so I decided to give her the comfortable ride. I got a screaming deal on the new bike from an older gentleman who had to give it up due to medical conditions. It's been sitting for 2 years and before he parked it, he laid it down. It only suffered slight scratches to the fairing that should buff out pretty good and knocked off the front turn signal. He included a new turn signal and it's in my wheelhouse to fix it. I noticed that there is very slight oil seepage for what looks to be the rear valve cover. Not sure if this is a big or small job yet. I probably need to get in there and measure the valves anyway. The other issue is that God granted me crazy long arms on my 6"2, 265 lb frame. I feel a bit of arm cramped. I wish the bars were slightly higher and pushed outward. Any advice on my issues would be appreciated. All in all, it's going to be an adjustment from the FJR1300 in handling but I expected that. The FJR is a fast nimble bike compared the the Venture but the saddle comfort I gained for me and the girl is significantly greater. We should have no problem logging much longer and enjoyable rides.

I had the '06 Tour Deluxe and it fit me well as far as reach, I'm short. I have the '18 SVTC now and I had to put on a set of ROX Risers to make it comfortable for me. this may be an option for you.

I read on here that someone who has my similar problem used the stock bars from a warrior and that was the ticket for him. He's showing an expired status so I wont be able to ask him more about it. I might have to try that. Risers might help with half the problem but I'd still like to go outward. The slight valve leak concerns me more as I started researching that. Looks like a bigger job than I want to tackle right now. I'm thinking I might risk it and ride this summer and make it a winter project. The bike only has 36k on it and runs great. Everything more than likely should be well within specs.

The guys here are great and very helpful. Hopefully someone can answer your questions better than I can. I didn't find them until I had the SVTC. there is a forum for tech on the 99 - 13 Ventures. you might want to search that too.

I dont know how I messed that. I'll be spending some time over there. Jackpot for sure.
cecdoo Posted March 17, 2020 #6 Posted March 17, 2020 There were a few 07 bikes that had left rear valve cover leaks from factory, more of a nusance then a problem. The gaskets were replaced under warranty. Also if crankcase oil is overfilled you get oil up in carb air box, when bike sits on sidestand you can get oil residue on left side rear. I would clean it off as best as you can and then just keep an eye on it. Sounds like a good project for next winter. When you fill crankcase only fill to mid site glass. The bike is built for 2 up touring, you will love that about it. It aint gonna be as lite and snappy as your FJ. Craig
WIZ Posted March 18, 2020 #7 Posted March 18, 2020 I installed these, Khrome Werks Chrome 10 in. Bagger Bobber Ape Hangers 1 in. Handlebars - 300200 on my 1999 Venture. I also had to install the 1 1/2" riser with them as they are wider at the bottom than the stock bars. I replaced my throttle cables with used Royal Star Tour Deluxe cables off of e-bay. This allows a lot of adjustability to suit different riders. I am 5'11'' and the change made a great improvement for me, there is still plenty of room to roll the bars even further forward if need be. everything else will be long enough you may just have to reroute to fit.
