Came across this just after my last post.

A top scientist with four degrees from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology said he believes the "deep state" is using the coronavirus pandemic for its own agenda.Shiva Ayyadurai said that the chronic “fear-mongering” over the outbreak was being used to push an agenda.Ayyadurai said on Twitter:“As an MIT PhD in Biological Engineering who studies & does research nearly every day on the Immune System, the #coronavirus fear-mongering by the Deep State will go down in history as one of the biggest fraud to manipulate economies, suppress dissent, & push MANDATED Medicine!”

So while driving to work (yes driving, it was raining :() there were 2 trucks that lost their load. One was cotton and they were talking about having a hard time with the clean up. All I could think of was for them to announce it was Toilet Paper and it would have been gone in a heartbeat.:rotf:

As soon as this passes, it will be a good idea to start stocking up.

As soon as this passes, throw extras that you got into a S&P 500 index fund like Vanguard VFIAX. It's going to be one hella ride to watch. A lot more fun than watching it go down.

As far as if this is orchestrated corruption, I do disagree, I feel that the matter is worse than they are telling us simply because we can not handle the truth. But then again, I believe there is stuff in Area51 that the world can not handle if they knew. :stirthepot:

And for us believers and bible readers, why exactly did I find that I should read Revelation as my first book starting in Jan 2020. If you read the bible, it is kinda ironic the similarity of this and plagues of years ago. No I don't think this is the end by any means, a society adjustment, ? yet to be determined. :icon_lurker:

You're absolutely right. Probably the worst think that an investor can do now is bail out. Scrounge around in the couch for extra change to invest and get ready for the ride up.

The good news is retail investors seem to be staying the course. It's the professionals that are panicking.

I've got a few select stocks on my radar including paper product and disinfectant producers, they should see record quarters. Otherwise...ride out the waves. I had just started Roth conversions last year, so the dip might be a good time to bite off the rest of the swap.

I started doing Roth conversions last year too. Unfortunately I already did a conversion for this year that will max me out in my tax bracket, any more will be prohibitively expensive tax-wise. If it drops another 50% I might bite off some more.

My wife and I do not subscribe to the greedy panic buying going on. We have had 8 deaths here in BC but 6 of them were at a private, for profit, health care center for the elderly. There have been problems with some of these private centers as they have put profits ahead of people. They have brought in Asians who will do the work for minimum wage and the sanitary standards have fallen. Airlines in their greed for more profit have jammed more and more people into aircraft where most of the air is recycled. I can foresee lawsuits against the sub standard health care outfits and the airlines and cruise lines are getting their asses kicked. I have some cash put aside to invest when the market has bottomed out because it always comes back up. Meanwhile we are living our lives as normal. I like shopping now as there are few people in the stores. This illness should be taken seriously but panicking is counter productive.

So,the first time I went to Walmart after the panic buying began, just to do my normal shopping,. I was stunned at which shelves were cleaned out 1st. TP, snacks like popcorn and potato chips etc. and water. I found this rather curious since if I were to stockpile these would be the last thing on my list. TP you can do without since there are numerous alternatives to TP. Man has gone many centuries W/O TP. You can wash. There are some countries even today, that consider TP unsanitary and use water trickled down there backside and wash, then wash their hands afterwards. You can even tear up old towels or t-shirts into wash cloths and wash them the way we used to do with cloth diapers. Snacks you can do without and in most cases they are not even good for you. Water is somewhat debatable since the water situation can vary from area to area but in most cases I don't see us running short of water. You can even set out rain barrels for wash water as well as filter and boil water for consumption. The run on milk is ridicules since unless you freeze it, it has a short shelf life. My Granddaughter works for a grocery store and say's people have been over buying milk and then returning it as it nears expiry date or simply returning it because they realize it will probably go bad before they get around to using it. The store has a policy of accepting all returns but they cannot ethically put it back on the shelf, due to the fact you have no idea how it has been handled or stored while out of the stores possession, so it ends up being dumped. In the mean time it could have been sold to people who can use it but could not get any because of these panic hoarders.

I do agree we do have a serious situation in that we do not have a handle on this virus, which is sweeping around the world like wild fire, hence no vaccine and no cure. But panic will solve nothing nor will ignorance or stupidity like my coworker who thinks its a big joke to paw people and laughing at their discomfort right after a notice was put out that we should maintain a 6 ft space. In our situation we deal with truck drivers that are still running cross country and cross border to maintain a supply of goods, so we need to be extra diligent and this clown thinks its all a big joke.

I spoke to my Doctor over the phone to get a renewal on a prescription and we ended up in a discussion about covid-19. During that discussion, I mentioned this joker I work alongside to him to see what he had to say about it and I was surprised when because of my cardiovascular history, high blood pressure and age as well as working alongside an idiot, as my Dr. put it, my Doctor strongly insisted I take the time off work. He also stated that unlike other flu virus's this one is a real sleeper. A person can have the virus easily for ten days or more with out showing symptoms and spread it to numerous individuals in the meantime, so that by the time the symptoms appear, you have no idea how may people a person has passed it on to. His office has even closed its doors to all but the most needy patients and other Doctor offices have apparently completely closed.

I've pretty much decided that this is a manufactured crisis, using the new flu strain as an excuse. Someone decided that the US economy had to be knocked down a few pegs...maybe have a reset....regardless of the cost.

I can see NO common sense reason for the level of panic.

Media driven, herd mentality panic. People need to get a grip.:yikes:

So That is the conspiracy Uncle? The American news media is trying to collapse the American economy first? Then all of the other Western Nations will follow suit.... I see - it must be Russia Russia Russia behind this, I guess hmm

Hit the nail on the head there Unc, Really?

Read every word of that page you linked to, then, I looked it up, did some fact checking on the "conspiracies" and thought about it? All I could find was one common denominator... I'm posting a link, I read yours I thought it weak but I followed it including the "edgy" guys bio..

See if you see a change of thinking in these conspirator's new realities. Read it all and click the short videos.

It is a virus not a conspiracy

Sure it's a virus....I never said anything different.

What I said is the reaction is so overblown that it makes no sense. An average flu season kills what....30 to 80,000 a year in the US alone, and we've never had nearly the same response. I'm spitballin' here, but I'm sure you'll check those numbers....I'm watching "A big hand for the little lady".

Y'all go ahead and freak if makes you feel your'e on top of this, but I refuse to.:yikes:

It is not about "freaking" at all Uncle.

The virus blossomed under the suppression of Socialist big foot.

Arriving then at our door, greeted by denials and political conspiracies and more denials of denials.

If you want to refer to the thinking man as sheep cause the veils of deception are not amusing to us; then accept as well some of us choose not to turn cheek. We will keep the kettles whistling finding no amusement in overpaid self-serving bold face misleading incapable shepherds.

Can we just stop not thinking for our selves till the next rally at least

The above article was originally posted March 10th, so 11 days ago with the latest update being on March 19th.

Interesting read for sure, but it shows how even a communist country with the power and ability to basically place 70 million citizens under house quarantine for close to 2 months was not able to contain this bug, for the governments of Canada or the US such a lock down is probably not even possible and even if it is our governments have waited too long.

I was one of the ones who didn't believe this was any big deal, I bought what the WHO was selling, that this was no worse than the Flu, no need to close borders or restrict movement, well you don't have to look any further than videos and images coming out of Italy to understand why the WHO is no longer sticking with their original song and dance, when people get the Flu they know it, they show symptoms fairly quickly, well not with this bug, some reports you can be infected and show no symptoms for up to 10 days while you are playing 'Typhoid Mary' and infecting all your friends, relatives, and co-workers.

The media does have a habit of blowing things out of proportion, not this time.

We don't have near enough ventilators for the number of people projected to be critical and in need of one.

There is my 2 cents, I will get off the soap box now.

Posted
I do not consider the "thinking man" sheep....quite the opposite.

Critical thought is what would prevent panic / overreaction. :2cents:

Agreed Uncle.

I realize I applied some pressure your way. But, as you mentioned you are young and strong meaning you can take it;)

From the outset it wasn't much of a challenge to predict the conspiracy theories lurking around the corner. That said the mood and direction has changed, we are a small part of this change, we also demonstrated once again our differences are what sets this club apart from most out there so, cheers!

I did take note to a few words spoken today by the President "China is not a beneficiary..."

My logic says that should spell the end to unfounded conspiracies that only exist to distract us from the real ones;)

Thanks for helping getting the word out

Thanks for posting the article, BMW. It gave me some understanding on the mechanism of infection of SARS-CoV-2. To me, it is truly a very aggressive and one thing that is alarming to me is the ability of the virus to remain so deadly to humans even in the warmer climates of the world.

So reading through the article, I need to scratch my head somewhat. In most of our world, a dog remains a dog and a cat remains a cat. They have little ones and turn out basically the same as their parents, still dogs and still cats. Now this virus, all on it's own decides to mutate into something that it really is not, it changes very quickly and seems to accommodate itself into something that it's host (us) is more unlikely to be able to resist. So what external forces are driving this change? I know animals can and will adopt to changing environments, but this takes time and generations to complete. What cause this little feller to do this, at will seemingly? I'm not arguing with the article, not at all, but just wondering about what's seems to be discovered.

The mutations are random - just like in animals and plants. Some mutations will be fatal, many will be benign and a few will confer an advantage - just like in animals and plants. The reason it doesn't take much time is the number of viruses is unimaginably large and they reproduce quickly. So the number of iterations that might take many thousands of years in an animal only requires a few days for a virus strain.

By the way, being deadly to the host is not an advantage for the virus. A dead host won't spread the virus. From an evolutionary perspective it's much better to have a lot of hosts without severe illness transmitting the virus. There is some evidence that that's what's going on here. The virus causes severe illness or death in a relatively small number of hosts.

Got my letter (e-mail) that designates me an essential worker.....and I'm laid off...lol.

From what I've read, this virus isn't all that much different, and it actually hasn't mutated much. The thing that makes it a bit worse is that it more easily creates problems in the lower lungs which makes it more difficult to treat. It'll be more likely to cause pneumonia, which is tough on old folks....Sounds like Freebird is getting it under control...Thank God....:cool10:

There are two strains of Cov-19, one more virulent than the other. But the medications being proposed to treat it and the vaccines to prevent it, that are under tests/development are supposed to work on both strains from what I've read.

I work for a company that has been considered an essential business because we print for the government, USPS, IRS. We have had three people confirmed with the Covid-19 virus. Our CEO of the company sent this article to all the employees and I found it very interesting. Why the coronavirus has been so successful. https://www.theatlantic.com/science/archive/2020/03/biography-new-coronavirus/608338/

I enjoyed the article. I found this interesting:

" There’s one possible exception. A few SARS-CoV-2 viruses that were isolated from Singaporean COVID-19 patients are missing a stretch of genes that also disappeared from SARS-classic during the late stages of its epidemic. This change was thought to make the original virus less virulent, but it’s far too early to know whether the same applies to the new one. "

Yeah.

It's that phrase "relatively small number" that kills ya.

Cause if/when the virus "only" kills, say, 2% of the world population......that's "ONLY" 150 MILLION people!

A buddy of mine used to say "You can drown in water that's an AVERAGE one inch deep."

The devil is in the details. Those "relative numbers" and "averages" will kill ya!

Doh!
