Ran across this one. For the older crowd some of these might have been your first scoot... A couple look like they have potential. It should be interesting to see what they'll go for.

The one I would bid on is the XL 250 but it has no title and here in FL to try and get one would cost more than the bike is worth.

Got a title for a KZ1000 about 22 years ago.

It was a bike that was a failed insurance fraud attempt.

Guy sold it without title then claimed it was stolen...then when the insurance investigator talked to a neighbor and found that the "Stolen" bike was seen to be loaded on a trailer by the "Victim", they denied the claim. The guy the bike was sold to wasn't interested in giving it back so the bike went through a couple of owners, then sat in limbo until I bought it about 6 years later. I loaded it up and took it to a State Patrol Barracks and told the trooper the story and asked if he could find the original owner was and all he could tell from the serial number was that the bike didn't show up as stolen.

I believe it was Delaware where this title service was located. At least at that time, in Delaware, for bikes / cars more than 10 years old, a title was not needed to transfer ownership, so they made a business out of helping folks get titles in such awkward situations.

I had to (on paper) "sell" them the bike for a dollar, then they'd "sell" it back to me with a notarized bill of sale for the same dollar. I then took the bill of sale to an Ohio BMV, and they issued me a title for the bike.

The whole process took a couple of weeks for the mail to go back and forth, but I ended up getting the bike for $500 plus the $275 I paid for the title "service".

It was a 79 KZ1000 MKII with 4,000 miles on it. A real tire frying beast....fast for it's time, but not the best handling bike I'd ever ridden.

Hung onto it for a couple of years then sold it for $1800.

Looked through them. Nothing really excites me and it appears that not a single one of them has a title. Not worth the effort for me. Maybe if they were closer.

I usually end up complaining about CA restrictions, but this time it's a thumbs up. The bike falls off the books in 7 years and all that's needed to re-register is fill out a statement of facts and they issue a current registration... Takes about 30 minutes and it's a done deal. Due to the age of the bikes I just thought it would be interesting for those out of state to follow along out of curiosity... Heck if I lived in SoCal it would be too far away...
